E326 Lean and Six Sigma

This module introduces the fundamental concepts of Lean and Six Sigma and adopts a quality methodology and statistical methods for problem solving in the engineering services, manufacturing, retail and services industries.

Students will be able to understand lean manufacturing in terms of waste elimination, value stream management and the productivity tools and methods for improving process flow. This module also introduces the Six Sigma DMAIC processes and tools, such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), as well as how Lean and Six Sigma are integrated. Through this module, students will be taken through the DMAIC phases with emphasis on transactional case studies.
