E341 Electronic and Semiconductor Materials
This module covers the principles and properties of semiconductor materials and the behaviour of charged carriers in different operational modes. Fundamental concepts such as carrier concentration, mobility, and diffusion are explored, along with the behaviour of carriers in p-n junctions under forward and reverse bias conditions, with a focus on the properties that influence device performance.
Students will also examine the operating modes and characteristics of conventional semiconductor devices, including diodes and bipolar junction transistors, before progressing to advanced devices such as MOSFETs, LEDs, and solar cells. Through interactive sessions and practical examples, students will analyse the behaviour of these devices and understand their applications in the semiconductor industry.
