Highlights
Jovinn Toh: Making History in Hotel Reception

Jovinn Toh, an alumna of RP’s School of Hospitality, made history by clinching Singapore’s first-ever Gold medal in the Hotel Reception skill area at the WorldSkills Competition Special Edition 2022. Competing against 15 international participants, Jovinn impressed judges with her professionalism, poise, and strong problem-solving abilities across four intense days.
Her win didn’t stop there—Jovinn was also presented with the Best of Nation Award, given to the top-performing competitor from Team Singapore. A graduate of the Diploma in Hotel & Hospitality Management (DHHM), she credits her success to the strong foundation she built at RP, guidance from her coaches, and hands-on experience at Mandarin Oriental.
Teeny Teh: Teaching with Heart, Humour, and Purpose

School of Hospitality associate lecturer Teeny Teh is known for her creative and student-focused teaching methods, which earned her a place as a finalist for the 2020 President’s Award for Teachers. The award recognises outstanding educators who go above and beyond to inspire and nurture their students.
Teeny’s lessons are anything but ordinary. One memorable example involved her dressing up in animal costumes and performing a choreographed dance to teach concepts in Event Marketing—an engaging experience that doubled as a live lesson in viral marketing. The class went viral online, turning learning into a hands-on, unforgettable experience.
Behind her unconventional approach is a simple belief: learning should be fun, purposeful, and personal.
Inspired by her father, who taught her using all five senses, Teeny brings that same energy to the classroom. More than concepts, she hopes her students walk away with life lessons—curiosity, resilience, gratitude, and the courage to do their best.
Tan Wei Shan: From Culinary Student to Award-Winning Founder

Tan Wei Shan, a graduate from RP’s Diploma in Restaurant & Culinary Operations (now Diploma in Restaurant & Culinary Management), turned his passion for food into an award-winning business.
In 2021, he launched Sin & Savage Bakehouse, a cosy café born out of his earlier venture, Mixsense Private Dining. What began as a post about artisan doughnuts quickly evolved into a beloved spot for comfort food and community.
Wei Shan recently won the SOE-Neo Start-up Award, which celebrates Singapore’s most promising entrepreneurs. He credits his time at RP and the mentorship of lecturers like Chef Derrick Lau, Chef Don, and Chef Soon for shaping his growth in the competitive F&B scene.
His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs? “The journey can be lonely and tough, but a strong purpose and unwavering support from loved ones will keep you going.”
Hannah Faruk Alkaff: From Events Student to Creative Influencer

For Hannah Faruk Alkaff, her time at RP’s Diploma in Integrated Events Management (DIEM) left a lasting mark.
“My three years in DIEM were the best years of my life,” she shares. “I had educators who were passionate and friends who will stick with me till the very end.” Beyond the strong support system, it was the hands-on learning and exposure to real-world events that shaped her journey.
A highlight was clinching 1st runner-up at the Singapore MICE Challenge 2017, which led to a learning trip to Nashville—an experience that broadened her horizons and deepened her passion for the events and hospitality industry. The opportunities she had at RP built her confidence, sharpened her communication skills, and inspired her to keep learning.
After graduating, Hannah pursued a Bachelor of Business (Tourism and Hospitality) at the Singapore Institute of Management (awarded by La Trobe University). Today, she channels her experience and creativity into her work as a content creator and influencer, using her platform to inspire others through storytelling, confidence, and purpose. “The lessons I learned at RP continue to guide me, not just in my career—but in life.”
