This course equips you with the fundamentals of programming using Python. You will learn how to solve problems through coding a software programme. Fundamentals on software structure, variables, selection, and iteration constructs will be covered. You will be able to create software to solve simple programming problems related to AI.

Programming for Artificial Intelligence is a module from the Specialist Diploma in Applied Generative Artificial Intelligence. It enables participants to acquire new skills or deepen relevant skills without the need to pursue a full specialist diploma. As this is a stackable course, participants may choose to complete the remaining modules within the validity period, of 2 years, to be awarded the full Specialist Diploma qualification.

Course objectives

Upon completing this modular course, you will be able to:

  • Apply critical and logical thinking to solve problems through computer programming.

  • Represent data using various data structures from simple primitive types to data structures like list, n-dimensioned and key-value data structures

  • Apply decision making and repetition / iteration in programming problem solving

  • Design and write code for clarity and re-use.

  • Store and retrieve information in files and databases

  • Use AI application programming interfaces (API's)

Target audiences

This course is designed for beginners or novice programmers with limited experience in programming and specifically in the Python programming language. This module is designed to develop students’ interests, abilities and confidence in programming and programming for AI.
