This course introduces a person-centred, mindfulness-informed approach to supporting ageing patients in healthcare and community care settings.

About course
Course objectives
Healthcare professionals working with ageing populations frequently encounter patients who are navigating complex cognitive, emotional, and life transitions associated with ageing, retirement, and changing health conditions. These transitions may manifest as anxiety, uncertainty, emotional distress, or changes in communication and behaviour, which can affect care relationships and patient engagement.
This course introduces a person-centred, mindfulness-informed approach to supporting ageing patients in healthcare and community care settings. It equips healthcare professionals with practical knowledge and skills to better understand the emotional and cognitive experiences of older adults, regulate their own responses during challenging interactions, and communicate with greater presence, empathy, and clarity.
Through guided teaching, experiential learning, case discussions, and reflective practice, participants explore how mindfulness can support emotional awareness, attentive listening, and compassionate engagement when working with ageing patients. The course emphasises collaborative care and stakeholder awareness, recognising the role of families, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams in supporting patient wellbeing.
Participants will learn practical mindfulness techniques that can be integrated into daily clinical and care interactions. By strengthening self-awareness and communication skills, the course supports healthcare professionals in delivering more responsive, respectful, and person-centred care for ageing patients experiencing cognitive and emotional transitions.
