About course
Course objectives
This course equips professionals working in healthcare institutions, community care organisations, and social service agencies with practical knowledge and skills to recognise signs of stress and mental fatigue in the workplace, support colleagues appropriately, and contribute to a psychologically healthy work environment.
Using a person-centred and mindfulness-informed approach to workplace health and wellness, the programme explores how stress affects cognitive functioning, emotional regulation, communication, and professional performance among care professionals who regularly interact with patients, clients, families, and members of the public.
Through guided teaching, experiential learning, and reflective discussion, participants develop greater awareness of their own stress responses as well as the signs of mental fatigue in colleagues. The course emphasises early identification, supportive communication practices, and collaborative responsibility for maintaining wellbeing within teams and organisations.
Participants will learn practical mindfulness-based strategies that can be integrated into daily work routines to promote resilience, emotional balance, and compassionate engagement with others. By strengthening self-care and collective awareness, the course supports a culture of person-centred care, mutual support, and sustainable wellbeing in care environments.
Course description
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
• Explain the neuroscience of stress and how mindfulness-based approaches support health and wellness by interrupting automatic stress responses
• Demonstrate an understanding of how thoughts, emotions, and behaviours interact, and how mindfulness creates greater choice and self-regulation within a person-centred care framework
• Apply foundational mindfulness practices to support personal well-being and responsive, compassionate engagement with others
• Recognise habitual “autopilot” stress patterns and implement practical strategies to shift into present-moment awareness in daily life and professional settings
• Engage in collaborative learning and reflection, recognising the role of stakeholders (e.g. colleagues, clients, families, or communities) in supporting sustainable well-being practices
• Build confidence in establishing and maintaining a sustainable personal mindfulness practice that supports lifelong learning, resilience, and holistic health
Target audiences
Social worker, caregiver or anyone who is in person-centred care work with stakeholders (e.g. colleagues, clients, families, or communities) and interested to develop capacity to support well-being at both an individual and systems level.
