Course overview
Singapore is adopting preventive measures for the community. In this light, Singaporeans will be anchored to family physicians, together with fostering community support for a healthier lifestyle.
The Specialist Diploma in Health and Wellness Coaching aims to produce well-informed Health and Wellness Coaches who can help clients with various conditions to modify health behaviours that improve quality of life and health outcomes.
Through practical, industry-focused learning, you will be able to:
have a good foundation in areas of nutrition, physical activity, and mental wellness.
play an important role in community settings to inform, engage, and motivate individuals to take a more prominent role in managing their health.
help clients gain confidence by educating them with knowledge, skills using the right tools to meet expected health goals.
Course objectives
Upon completion of the diploma, students will:
Synthesise the health coaching framework with existing practices in Singapore.
Apply health promotion techniques using the biopsychosocial aspect of health.
Communicate effectively on self-discovery, autonomy and give back decision-making skills to the client.
Plan, execute and operationalise health programmes for the community.
Apply a holistic framework to case management and documentation.
Build a portfolio of health coaching competencies and experiences.

Health/Wellness/Care Coach, Care Coordinator, Educator, Executive, and Health Promoter
Mode of assessment
Combination of graded assignments, written and practical assessments (where applicable).

Community Health Prescription | Knowledge of a well-planned and executed health programme is vital for being a Health Coach. This module explores the planning and execution of health programmes in the community. It touches on the operationalisation of health screening, nutrition, physical and mental wellness programmes. Upon completion of this module, you will also receive an industry-recognised certificate in HUR SmartTouch. |
Community Case Management | In this module, you will have an overview of case management within the community. You will understand the importance of case documentation. Using this knowledge, you can expand to community and workplace outreach. |
Health Coaching Portfolio | This is a practicum module that encompasses all the concepts of health coaching. You will need to build up a portfolio for health coaching, population health advocacy, communication in behaviour change, community health prescription and case management. At the end of the module, you will be competent in the knowledge and skills of health coaching. |

Fundamentals of Health Coaching | This module introduces you to the Health Coaching framework. You will understand the modes and roles of health coaching in Singapore. You will have an understanding of the purpose of being a health coach in the community with skills of health assessment and monitoring. You will also pick up tips on the upcoming digitalisation of health coaching and ethics. |
Population Health Advocacy | Understanding human biology is key to health coaching. You will be introduced to the 3 Health Pillars (Nutrition, Physical Activity, Mental Wellness) of Health Promotion. With the knowledge, you can now apply relevant health advocacy techniques used in the field. |
Communicating for Behaviour Change | This module aims to equip you with advanced communication and health coaching skills. It introduces you to theoretical frameworks and evidence-based approaches, such as motivational interviewing and active listening, so that you can assist individuals to change their health behaviour to improve their own health and wellbeing. |
Entry requirements
Applicants should possess a relevant (Health Sciences or Social Sciences) local polytechnic Diploma, ITE Technical Diploma / Technical Engineer Diploma / Work-Study Technical Diploma or Degree.
Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least five years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted will have to go through an interview and/or an entrance test. The polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.
Conditional Offer
Graduating students (in their final semester) from a local polytechnic or Institute of Technical Education (ITE) may apply for the programme.
