Led by RP’s School of Infocomm, the team collaborated with a fitness assessment technology provider to enhance exercise assessment.

Large-scale fitness assessment programmes require accurate, scalable and accessible solutions that can support both formal testing and independent training. Existing systems rely on specialised hardware and fixed installations, limiting deployment flexibility and user access to performance feedback. To address these challenges, researchers from RP developed the Intelligent Calisthenics Assistant II (ICA II), an AI-powered solution that uses pose estimation technology to assess and count push-ups and sit-ups using standard camera devices.
Led by RP School of Infocomm, the team collaborated with a fitness assessment technology provider to enhance exercise assessment through AI-driven posture analysis, automated counting, readiness detection and performance review capabilities. The solution is designed to operate across fixed, lightweight and mobile platforms, enabling broader deployment and improved user experience.
The technology is currently licensed to the industry partner for commercial deployment and integration into its fitness assessment product ecosystem. This supports the translation of RP’s research into real-world applications, enabling wider adoption of AI-enabled fitness assessment technologies while strengthening innovation in the sports and wellness sector.
