Farah Abdul Shukor embraced the cultural differences and language barriers of joining RP Wushu with an open mind, and her willingness to observe, learn and adapt has taken her all the way to club president and the Reflections Arts Festival stage.

Wushu first caught her eye in Primary 2, but Farah Abdul Shukor stopped after just six months. More than a decade later, an RP Wushu showcase reignited her curiosity and drew her back to the Chinese martial art.
Today, Farah is the President of RP Wushu, where she continues to deepen her skills and explore different aspects of the martial art. One area that particularly fascinates her is weapon techniques, especially the spear.
Getting back into wushu was not without its challenges. Faced with unfamiliar cultural practices and language barriers, Farah learnt to observe, ask for help and adapt along the way.
“Even simple things, like knowing when to cheer or how to greet our coach before our official CCA greeting, made me hesitant at first because I worried about getting them wrong. By observing and learning from my peers, I gradually became more confident,” she shares.
Now, the School of Sports and Health student is helping bring RP Wushu to the stage at MUSE XV: Between Artists, presented as part of RP’s Reflections Arts Festival.

“Most people don’t know that RP Wushu is part of CREATE’s Dance Interest Groups, rather than sports,” says Farah. “Audiences can look forward to seeing how our student choreographers bring fresh choreography, bold concepts and stories told through our own lens to life.”
Farah’s story is just one of many waiting to be discovered. The Reflections Arts Festival 2026 runs from 20 October to 7 November, celebrating the bold, the unexpected and the beautifully diverse. Come see what happens when RP student artists bring their distinct styles together on one stage.
