School of Sports and Health (SSH) students took to the waters of Marina Bay in a student-led kayak clean-up initiative, combining experiential learning with environmental action to protect marine wildlife.

Twenty-five students from SSH embarked on a kayak-based marine clean-up at Marina Bay (Kallang Basin) on 25 June 2025 as part of an experiential learning and community service project.
The student-led initiative focused on environmental sustainability and student engagement, requiring careful planning and coordination before the event day. Students conducted a pre-event site reconnaissance to assess water conditions and identify areas with concentrated litter. They also collaborated with the Singapore Canoe Federation to plan safety procedures and kayak deployment.
During the three-hour event, students demonstrated strong leadership and teamwork during the planning and on-water coordination. They navigated the waters, collected marine litter, and contributed to raising environmental awareness.
To solidify their learning, the students held a post-event reflection and sharing session.
One student shared, "Every piece of litter we remove from the water is one less threat to marine wildlife. Animals often mistake plastic for food, which can be deadly. This clean-up isn't just about beautifying our waterways, it's about giving wildlife a better chance to survive."
Another said, "This experience reminded me that taking care of the environment starts with each of us. It's not just about joining clean-ups, it's about making conscious choices daily, like not littering and being more responsible with our waste."
