Running side by side for a cause
At the Singapore Cancer Society Relay for Life, Republic Polytechnic student Arabella Alturas ran lap after lap alongside someone who has always supported her — her father.
Arabella, a student from RP’s School of Applied Science and an alumna of Pei Cai Secondary School, was joined by her father, Christian Alturas, a seasoned marathoner. The two took turns on the track, running together for a cause that affects many lives.
“My dad has always shown up for me,” Arabella shared. “Last night, I got to show up with him.”
They were part of a team of 19 RP staff and students who kept the baton moving through the evening — pushing through the heat and fatigue, lap after lap. By the end of the event, the team had completed 100 kilometres and raised more than $12,000 in support of cancer-related causes.

Student leadership in action
The effort was organised by the ChangeMaker Run Club, a student-led initiative under the GroundImpact Series, RP’s signature programme that empowers students to take the lead on meaningful community projects.
Led by student organiser Edwind Teo, the club brought together participants who shared a common goal — using sport and teamwork to make a positive impact.
The RP contingent was flagged off by Lim Leng Er, Director of RP School of Sports and Health, who served as race starter and encouraged the runners at the start of the relay.
Carrying the cause forward
While the race has ended, the spirit behind it continues.
Through the dedication of students and staff, the relay became more than a run. It was a reminder that when people come together for a shared purpose, every step can help move a cause forward.
