RP Agriculture Research and Innovation (AGRI) Centre developed an Intelligent Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR) Monitoring and Control System to tackle plant growth challenges.

Farmers and greenhouse operators often face challenges in accurately assessing the amount of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) reaching their crops. Insufficient or uneven light exposure can result in poor plant growth, reduced productivity, and inefficient energy use, particularly during cloudy or rainy conditions.
To address this challenge, RP Agriculture Research and Innovation (AGRI) Centre developed an Intelligent Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR) Monitoring and Control System in collaboration with a Singapore-based sustainable product R&D SME. The system integrates PAR sensors, intelligent controllers, data acquisition and analysis software, and automated lighting control modules to monitor real-time light levels and adjust artificial lighting according to plant requirements.
The technology has since been licensed out to an industry partner, demonstrating its market relevance and commercial potential. By combining intelligent sensing, automation, and data-driven decision-making, the innovation supports more sustainable and productive farming practices while strengthening the translation of RP research into industry impact. This successful commercialisation reflects RP’s commitment to developing practical technologies that address industry needs and accelerate innovation in smart agriculture.
