RP Agriculture Research and Innovation (AGRI) Centre developed and validated a remodelled open gully cultivation system featuring a side water-flow design.

RP partnered with an urban agriculture company to enhance the productivity and resource efficiency of sharp spinach cultivation. Through a consultancy project, RP evaluated existing cultivation practices and developed practical solutions to improve crop yield, irrigation performance, and substrate management.
To address challenges in achieving higher productivity under resource constraints, RP AGRI Centre developed and validated a remodelled open gully cultivation system featuring a side water-flow design. The solution demonstrated improved irrigation uniformity, supported high-density planting, and achieved more than a 20% increase in crop productivity compared to conventional cultivation benchmarks. RP also established substrate management protocols and irrigation guidelines to support sustainable farm operations.
RP licensed the developed cultivation system and associated know-how to the industry partner, enabling adoption of a more productive and resource-efficient farming approach. The collaboration demonstrates how RP translates applied research into industry-ready solutions that support sustainable food production, operational efficiency, and innovation within Singapore's urban agriculture sector.
