Q1. What is the difference between the Orientation Programme and the School Welcome Programme?

The Orientation Programme is a Republic Polytechnic (RP)-wide orientation event. You will get to find out more about RP, the various student groups, as well as the facilities and services available to you. It will help you maximise your experience in RP.

The School Welcome Programme will introduce you to your school, its culture and regulations. This is a good opportunity to meet your peers whom you will meet regularly in class, ask questions about your diploma and get a clearer picture of your academic future.

Q2. If I'm unwell, can I still attend the Orientation Programme?

If you are feeling unwell, please do not turn up for the programme and consult a doctor.

Q3. Is it compulsory to attend the Orientation Programme?

The attendance for Orientation Programme is compulsory and will be beneficial to all Year One students. Students will be introduced to RP, our guidelines, online learning systems, and so much more.

You can expect to meet your lecturers and mentors, and attend several important briefings which will help you to settle down and adjust quickly and comfortably to life in RP.

Q4. What should I do if I cannot attend the Republic Polytechnic Orientation Programme?

Please contact your School representatives as soon as possible. Let your School representatives know here.

Q5. Must I register for the Orientation Programme?

You do not need to register for OP as it is a compulsory programme for all matriculated students. However, if you wish to attend the School Welcome Programme which will be held before the OP, you must register as spaces are limited. For more information about the School Welcome Programme, click here.

Q6. Do I need to bring my laptop during Orientation Programme?

Yes, you will need to bring your laptop as activities will be conducted online. If you do not have a laptop, you may join the activities via your mobile phone.

Q7. Where do I report for Orientation Programme?

You will be notified by email or SMS on the respective reporting venue. On the day of the orientation programme, you will proceed to your respective reporting venue. There will be student ushers onsite should you need any assistance. Please bring along your Identification Card for registration purposes.

Q8. What time do I report?

Please be in RP campus by 9:00am.

Q9. What should I wear?

  • Be decently attired and with covered shoes or sandals. No sleeveless T-shirts, singlets, shorts and slippers.

  • Do not wear any form of attire deemed indecent and/or with offensive prints (words or images). Cover or remove all tattoos and/or body piercing.

  • Only black, brown, blonde, auburn, grey and white hair are allowed on campus.  

Q10. Are we staying overnight for the Orientation Programme?

Q11. What kind of rules are there on campus?

RP Student Code of Conduct

The Republic Polytechnic (RP) Student Code of Conduct aims to guide all students and promote the values reflected in the REPUBLIC Code of Honour.

All students are to comply with the following (on and off campus, and on Student Overseas Travel):

  • All Standing Regulations in the RP Student Code of Conduct.

  • The Legislation in Singapore.

  • All Academic Regulations found in the Student Handbook.

  • Any other rules, regulations and instructions that are issued from time to time.

All students are to assume self-responsibility for knowing and upholding the RP Student Code of Conduct, and are expected to conduct himself/herself in ways that promote a safe and respectful community within the Institution and in the greater community outside the Institution. 

Disrespectful behaviour or insubordination to lecturers or any other officers of the Polytechnic (including security officers) will NOT be tolerated.

All students should carry their RP Student ID at all times and produce it when requested for identification by any RP staff.

 

Respecting Others and Upholding Good Conduct

All students should be considerate to others and respect the diversity of cultures, races and religions.

Students should refrain from any conduct that demeans, intimidates, threatens, harasses or injures any individual, such as bullying, fighting, making derogatory remarks, sexual misconduct (e.g. sexual assault, outrage of modesty, illicit recording, voyeuristic act, distribution of voyeuristic recording, stalking).

 

Violation of the RP Student Code of Conduct

As a caring educational community, RP does not tolerate misconduct, be it physical or psychological harm, harassment or violence directed against any person.  Students engaging in such misconduct are subject to disciplinary actions and the punitive actions to be imposed may include dismissal, suspension and/or other penalties.

 

Incident Reporting

Students should inform their Programme Chair (PC), Mentor, Lecturer or RP Discipline Masters if they see or encounter any such misconduct.  Students can also report such misconduct to the Fire Command Centre (FCC) located at RPC, or contact Campus Security at 6697 1515or the Office of Student and Graduate Affairs at https://for.edu.sg/rpcontactus.

RP's counsellors are also available to provide support if you need help and they can be reached at RP https://for.edu.sg/rpcontactus.

Q12. Will food be catered?

Yes, bento meal will be provided for all participants. Vegetarian options are available as well.

Q13. How do I get to RP?

By Bus:
From Woodlands Interchange to RP: 169, 902*.
*Note: Bus service 902 operates from 7:30am to 10:00am on both 13 and 14 April.

By MRT:
Nearest MRT Stations:
  • Woodlands Station (North-South Line)
  • Woodlands North Station (Thomson-East Coast Line)
