Why Service-Learning?

Service-Learning is an integral part of our PFP curriculum. It’s where you take what you learn and apply it to real-world situations.
You’ll work on projects that bring joy and support seniors at places such as Ren Ci Nursing Home, CareElderly, and active ageing centres. You’ll learn how to connect across generations and contribute in meaningful ways.
Additionally, you’ll get to dive into service projects that serve different social groups. Think bike repair workshops, sustainable farming, or health and wellness programmes on Pulau Ubin. These experiences show you how your actions can create lasting change.
Our Community Involvements

Regular Engagements
As a PFP student, you’ll take part in regular visits to nursing homes, where you’ll spend time with elderly residents and build genuine connections. These experiences help you develop empathy, patience, and strong communication skills—qualities that will serve you well in every area of life.

Supporting Social Causes
You’ll also step into meaningful community work through initiatives like the annual Pesta Ubin Project. By supporting health and wellness programmes on Pulau Ubin, you’ll play an active role in promoting sustainability and improving lives, while learning how your efforts can create real change.

Hear what they say
It is heartening to witness PFP@RP students putting a lot of care into the design of their engagement sessions while keeping our seniors' needs in mind. They make great efforts to engage empathetically with our seniors and are earnest in bringing joy to our nursing home. Our seniors enjoy their companionship and always look forward to the next engagement session with RP students.— Ms Lee Shu Yi, Ren Ci Hospital
The activities planned by the PFP@RP students were well-received by the residents, unlocking their child-like spirit and zeal!— Ms Melissa Teo, Methodist Welfare Services
Sree Narayana Mission (Singapore) has been collaborating with Polytechnic Foundation Programme students at Republic Polytechnic for the past seven years. Through this collaboration, students have made a difference in the quality of life of residents.— Ms Noor Syazwani Binte Mohamad, Sree Narayana Mission
The drive and enthusiasm of the students and the teacher in charge were evident, and the seniors in the community appreciated it. The students tried their best to communicate with the residents, even when there were language barriers between them.— Community Partners
Seeing smiles on their faces makes us feel that what we did was worthwhile. It also brings us happiness to see that they are not alone but have friends to talk with. Interacting with the elderly has allowed us to improve our communication skills and enabled us to learn things outside the classroom in a different environment.— RP PFP Students
