They are well-equipped with problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and we have RP alumni who are now staff of Woodlands Health. The students are genuinely interested in the engagements with our residents, evident by ground activities. Furthermore, RP SSH's lecturers consistently go above and beyond to provide comprehensive support to students during their internship experiences.”

Highlights
Shanti Pereira: Sprint Queen and RP Success Story

Shanti Pereira’s journey from RP student to Singapore’s sprint queen reflects the power of determination and a strong support system.
As an RP alumna, Shanti benefited from a flexible academic pathway that allowed her to balance training and studies. RP provided her with a customised class schedule, flexible academic load, and dedicated mentoring — support that helped her achieve her breakthrough win at the 2015 SEA Games and paved the way for future success.
In 2023, Shanti became the first Singaporean to win an athletics gold at the Asian Games since 1974, adding a silver in the 100m event. Her record-breaking year included medals at the SEA Games and Asian Athletics Championships, along with securing a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Shanti’s achievements earned her the title of The Straits Times Athlete of the Year 2023 and a place in the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame as its youngest inductee — a testament to how RP’s supportive learning environment empowered her to succeed both on and off the track.
From Setbacks to Success: Keefe Lau’s Inspiring Journey

Keefe Lau’s academic journey was marked by challenges, but his determination and sense of purpose set him apart. Despite repeating Secondary Three and facing setbacks, he excelled at polytechnic, graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA and serving as Vice-President of the Student Council.
His dedication to public service, including volunteering at nursing homes and the Institute of Mental Health, shaped his decision to join the SAF. As the first polytechnic student to receive the SAF Scholarship, Keefe plans to study political science to strengthen his understanding of governance and contribute to Singapore’s future.
For Keefe, success means using his experiences to give back to the community.
Yip Pin Xiu: Champion in Sport and Life

Yip Pin Xiu’s journey from RP student to becoming Singapore’s most decorated Paralympian reflects resilience and excellence. A seven-time Paralympic gold medallist and world champion, Yip holds two world records in the 50m and 100m backstroke — a testament to her determination and competitive spirit.
Her passion for sports science led her to pursue a Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science (DSES) at RP, where the Problem-based Learning approach allowed her to apply her knowledge of physiology, biomechanics, and psychology to real-world scenarios.
Yip credits RP’s flexible learning environment for giving her the freedom to balance her athletic and academic commitments. The ability to adjust her class schedule and take a manageable academic load enabled her to focus on training and competition without compromising her studies.
Yip’s resilience, combined with RP’s strong support system, helped her thrive both academically and athletically. Her advice to students? Find a community and surround yourself with a strong team — it will transform your life.
Aini Mohd Yasli: Breaking Barriers in Sports and Life

Aini Mohd Yasli’s journey is one of resilience and determination. Diagnosed with multiple epiphyseal dysplasia at six, Aini faced severe joint and bone pain, but that didn’t stop her from pursuing her passion for sports.
After trying her hand at archery, rowing, swimming, biathlons, and triathlons, Aini discovered powerlifting in 2017 and quickly made her mark. She won two bronze medals at the ASEAN Para Games and secured sixth place at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics — a historic achievement for Singapore.
Today, Aini works at RP’s Xperiential Learning Centre, an inclusive facility where students of all abilities can engage in sports and adventure learning. RP’s supportive environment gave Aini the space to balance her training with her professional growth, allowing her to thrive in both areas.
Now, Aini hopes to create a student group that brings together athletes with and without disabilities to foster an inclusive sports culture. Her story proves that with the right support and determination, you can overcome any challenge and inspire others to do the same.
