The aim of Graphic Design is to prepare students for professional practice in the field of graphic design, using both theoretical and practical approaches. Through exploration, analysis, discussion, and practice, students develop a personal process for applying basic design principles to their own work, with the goal of making it effective for both the target audience and the client. This module looks at basic elements and principles of design, ways in which these elements/principles can be managed to express the designer’s intention more clearly, and various techniques commonly used to make design more effective. Students develop the confidence to express their opinions and feelings about a design’s effectiveness, and learn to apply these understandings when developing their own solutions to given design problems. Each student creates finished work suitable for their design portfolio.
