Overseas Exposure for Full-Time-Students

At Republic Polytechnic (RP), we believe in enriching our students' learning experience by allowing them to experience different cultures and environments. Our various overseas programmes and initiatives allow our students to better appreciate diversity, develop new perspectives and become adaptable global citizens.

For Full-Time Students

These are the overseas programmes and opportunities we offer to full-time students:

Student Overseas Trips

These overseas trips allow our students to enjoy experiential learning that sees them apply their knowledge and skills in different settings. These experiences are carefully designed so that our students can meet specific learning objectives through visits and/or activities at culturally significant and industry-relevant sites.

Our overseas programmes have taken students to countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Australia, New Zealand, Finland, United States of America, United Kingdom, Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Overseas Internships

Overseas internships or the Overseas Industry Immersion Programme (OIIP) is a special category of overseas programmes. RP students travel overseas for an extended period to go on internships with international companies. This allows them to gain a global perspective in their field of study and future profession.

Our students have successfully completed internships with renowned overseas companies such as BLOCK71 Suzhou & BLOCK71 Jakarta, SCTV, Genesis Indojaya, Telkom Indonesia and Four Seasons, Kingsmen HCMC. You can find more about overseas internships and to learn how to sign up by visiting this page.

International Service Learning Trips

Service Learning is an extension of our values at RP. We seek to make positive impact and contribute meaningfully in the International Service Learning Programme (ISLP). The students will get apply the expertise that they have honed in the classroom and have first-hand experience in the overseas communities.

These trips are based on a community-based strategy where we support and commune in neighbouring countries such as Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia to build rapport and trust through series of projects the needs for the local community. For example, our students have taught English, conducted sports coaching, delivered lessons about computing and helped community infrastructure.

One recent example is Project Phnom Penh - Triple P, where 42 students from the School of Technology for the Arts, School of Sports, Health and Leisure and Service-Learning Club went on a 13-day trip to Cambodia. Working with Hagar Cambodia, the students worked with children in the slums to refurbish their houses. They also supported Hagar Cambodia’s programmes with projects that help increase the proficiency of skills such as IT, sports and physical education, and training for spa and wellness.

Virtual International Service-Learning Projects

Even with the ongoing pandemic, RP continues to engage with our overseas partners in a safe and measured manner. This year, has seen more than 100 students participating in more than 240 hours of virtual service learning projects with partners from Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia. Our students continue to serve the marginalised communities over IT platforms such as Zoom.

Specialists’ Community Action and Leadership Exchange (SCALE)

The Temasek Foundation Specialists’ Community Action and Leadership Exchange or TF SCALE aims to promote mutual understanding, build cross-cultural networks and develop leadership skills among Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students with the potential to be future leaders in Asia. It allows our students to engage in a holistic learning and cross-cultural sharing experience with their counterparts in various institutes of higher learning in Southeast Asia.

Since 2014, the programme has seen more than 300 students, both from RP and partner institutions from China, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, work on social innovation projects.
