Our student leaders from RP Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Student Chapter embarked on a virtual international service-learning trip to Yangon, Myanmar, to impart engineering maths and digital electronic skills to local youths.

Named “Engineering Maths and Digital Electronics for Myanmar Students”, the project was organised in partnership with Aggacara Education and Meditation Centre on 6 June 2021 to benefit local youths aged 17 to 25.

In the two hours Zoom session, our student leaders interacted directly with the youths to learn more about their culture and shared useful knowledge, such as Engineering Maths and Digital Electronics. Our student leaders kickstarted the session with a short introduction on RP IMechE student chapter followed by an ice-breaker game. They also taught basic map-reading skills and combination logic using the interactive slides and Kahoot quiz filled with simple text and illustrations to overcome the language barrier. There was much laughter and enthusiasm between the youths of both countries, with virtual thumbs up and claps all around.

We need to reflect our heart posture for learning as in Singapore, we are privileged to learn so we don’t feel very enthusiastic in learning. But in Myanmar, we can see that they are very keen to learn regardless of their background!
