Congratulations to Team “3 Masked Bears” for winning the Best Innovation Award at the Prudential Young Trailblazer Hackathon 2022 competition held on 14 May 2022!

Prudential Young Trailblazer Hackathon 2022 is an annual competition where students compete in an intensive bootcamp to incubate, prototype and pitch their creative ideas to solve real-world problems across many business, finance, technology and lifestyle categories.

The Year 3 students from the Diploma in Financial Technology, Muhammad Izwan Bin Azman, Samuel Chew Ting Jun and Zhou Xinlong, proposed WatchBear – a mobile app which utilises semi-supervised machine learning and a chatbot to protect WhatsApp users from scams. WatchBear also allows users to “troll” scammers and crowd-source more information related to the scam. The app also incorporated in a microinsurance coverage plan which help highlighted Prudential’s insurance offerings as part of its unique features.

Reflecting on their competition journey, all members learned the value of hard work, team spirit and the innovative attitude to achieve their best in addressing the proposed problem statement. They would like to express their appreciation to PC Mr Tok Nam Huat, Senior Lecturer Ms Jolene and competition mentor Mr Jack Seow for their unwavering support.
