How It Works

🎬Kickstart Your GENflick Journey

Join us at the Event Launch on the evening of Friday, 7 November! This is Day 0 — where we’ll unveil the Story Theme that every team must use as the core of their microfilm.

🎥Get Your Challenge Brief

Along with the Story Theme, each team will receive a random Diversifier — an extra creative twist to make your film stand out.

🧑🏻‍🏫Expert Help at the Challenge Space

The Challenge Space will stay open on 8 & 9 November (Day 1 & Day 2) so your team can work together on site.

On Day 1 (10am–12pm), industry experts will be around to offer advice on storytelling & scripting, filmmaking & editing, and post-production & sound design

📝Wrapping Up and Declaration

Day 2 is crunch time — the last stretch of your 48-hour challenge. Make the most of it to give your AI microfilm a creative edge!

The completed AI microfilm must be submitted by 6pm.

Who Can Join?

GENflick is open to anyone aged 16 and above who is passionate about filmmaking and curious about AI tools. We’ve divided the challenge into two categories.

Student Category

This category is for students aged 16 and above who are currently enrolled in any educational institution, including polytechnics, ITEs, and tertiary schools.

The Open Category is for everyone else- aspiring filmmakers, independent creators, industry professionals, and digital artists.

Frequently Asked Questions

GENflick is a creative AI microfilm challenge organised by RP School of Technology for Arts, Media and Design where participants create a 2-minute microfilm using AI tools. It includes free webinars, SkillsFuture-eligible short courses, and a 48-hour Challenge Weekend.

Participants can join the Student Category or the Open Category.
  • Student Category: Students aged 16 and above currently enrolled in polytechnics, ITEs, or tertiary institutions in Singapore.
  • Open Category: Independent creators, aspiring filmmakers, industry professionals, and digital artists.
Note: Participants must be residents of Singapore with a Singapore bank account to facilitate the disbursement of cash prizes.

You can join GENflick and the webinars at no cost. SkillsFuture-eligible short courses are offered separately and are chargeable, but fees can be claimed using SkillsFuture Credits.

No prior experience is required. Webinars and short courses will equip you with AI storytelling tools and techniques.

You can win cash prizes, trophies, internships with Mediacorp, mentoring opportunities, and possible collaborations with industry partners.

Judges will assess your microfilm based on the storytelling quality, innovative use of AI, technical execution, and audience impact.

Your microfilm must meet these requirements:
  • Duration: Between 30 seconds and 3 minutes
  • Format: Portrait, 9:16 aspect ratio, .mp4, .mov, or .h264 format
Additionally, you’ll need to complete a text form with questions about your work and the production process, providing all the information the jury may need to evaluate your microfilm effectively.

You’ll need to bring along your own equipment and software for the challenge. Don’t worry—we’ve got the venue and WiFi covered so you can focus on creating.

Yes, GENflick is a fully in-person event with no online access. All participants must attend Day 0 (7 Nov) for the launch, where we’ll reveal the story theme and diversifiers to kickstart your project. Days 1 and 2 (8–9 Nov) are optional but highly recommended. The Challenge Space will be open for teams who want to work onsite, and on Day 1, industry experts will be around to share guidance on storytelling, scripting, filmmaking, editing, and post-production.
