From internships at renowned institutions such as National University Hospital Surgical Centre and the Genome Institute of Singapore, to honing his confidence and leadership skills through the Singapore Youth Model Parliament, Pira thrived with the opportunities he received at RP. He is currently serving as a Youth Ambassador for ASEAN with the World Health Organisation, spearheading crucial medical and clinical operations in HIV-prone nations.
Aqilah Faaiqah House Officer, Singapore General Hospital Diploma in Biomedical Science Graduate We are so proud of RP School of Applied Science alumna Aqilah Faaiqah, who recently graduated from NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Aqilah’s journey was tumultuous, as her mother was diagnosed with cancer during her last year at RP. Despite having to juggle studies and caregiving, Aqilah excelled and graduated as the Most Outstanding Graduate of the Year in 2017. After RP, Aqilah enrolled into NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Partly driven by her personal experience, she specialised in palliative care. In her fourth year at medical school, Aqilah took a gap year to care for her ailing mother. She fulfilled her mother’s wish by getting married at Singapore General Hospital in 2021 so that her mother could be part of the ceremony. A week later, Aqilah’s mother, Madam Rahana Ali passed on. “She was such a fighter. You would never think she was a dying woman. She was fighting for me. She wanted to see me graduate, get married and have children. There’s always a silver lining. When adversity happens, there’s always a rainbow at the end of it.” The journey to becoming a doctor has not been easy and we wish Aqilah all the best. Your strength of character and resilience inspire us all.
