Sustaining a Community of Practice (CoP)

Communities are not born in their final state, but go through a natural cycle of birth, growth and death. Many go through such radical transformation that the reasons that they stayed together has little relation to the reasons they started in the first place. In this course, participants will better understand how communities of practices evolved over time and what it takes to sustain them so that they provide continual value to its members and organisations. Participants will complete a guided assignment to apply their learning and give feedback to a peer on their assignment as part of the course.

Learning Objectives

By end of this workshop, participants will be able to
  • Design e-Learning interactions
  • Apply features of an authoring tool (iSpring) to develop e-Learning interactions
  • Develop an e-Learning lesson with moderate interactivity (Mayer level 2)
  • Identify the various stages of growth of a CoP
  • Identify the various actions that can be undertaken to address the issues faced by CoPs during its growth, in order to sustain it. Explain how they can monitor the growth of a CoP and help CoPs transit from one stage to another
