About the Course

The Esports industry has been gaining traction globally and its market is projected to surpass $1.5B by 2021. Esports has also been introduced into mainstream sporting events, for example, in the South East Asian Games in 2019, and as a demonstration sport in the Tokyo Olympic. With the evolving Esports landscape, there will be a need for skilled professionals to support Esports in the areas of marketing, athlete management, and Esports event organisation.

RP partners with industry experts such as the Singapore Cybersports & Online Gaming Association (SCOGA) to bring relevant industry content in Esports to its participants.

What is so unique about this programme?

Specialist Diploma in Esports Business and Production will equip participants for the Esports landscape with knowledge and skills in the area of athlete management and coaching, marketing, event organisation, and production.

Esports gaming platform providers, Esports league owners, Esports athletes, Esports businesses, sports managers and administrators, event organisers.

How often do I need to attend the course?

Lessons will be held at Republic Polytechnic @ Woodlands 

Number of Lesson Duration
3 times a week 6:30pm - 9:30pm (Weekdays)
9:00am - 12:00pm/ 1:00pm to 4:00pm (Saturdays) 

Note: Some lessons will be conducted via online learning.

 

Participants will be awarded the Post-Diploma Certificate (PDC) upon successful completion of each certificate programme. The Specialist Diploma in Esports Business and Production will be issued upon meeting 50% of attendance requirement and passing the assessment criteria of both PDCs.

Module Synopses

1. Post-Diploma Certificate in Esports Business

The Esports Ecosystem

This module introduces the learners to the Esports ecosystem. Learners will be able to apply the PEST framework for Esports and identify the stakeholders of this industry. Learners will explain how the stakeholders relate and interact with each other and uncover the factors that contribute to the phenomenal growth and success of Esports. The learners will then compare how the formation of Esports teams differ from traditional sport teams. With the macro and micro understanding of the Esports industry, they will also uncover the different potential career opportunities. 

Digital Marketing Strategies

As the digital commerce landscape continues to grow at a rapid pace, the value chain of every industry is now going online. Businesses are faced with new challenges and opportunities in this digital age. This module will introduce learners to the range of tools for e-commerce promotion e.g. search marketing, content marketing and social media marketing. At the end of the module, learners will be able to gain relevant digital marketing insights, as well as a vast array of highly practical techniques that are being used in the field. 

Coaching and Team Management

Coaching Esports is more than just striving to win competitions. Effective coaching practices can help E-athletes build their character and develop the life skills needed to be successful in society, and create a positive team culture for their teams. This module will enable learners to develop their own coaching philosophy, equip them with effective lesson planning skills, inter-personal and team management skills.    

Performance Management for Esports Athletes

This module serves as an introduction to the application of sports science to Esports athlete performance. It will cover specific areas such as Sport Psychology, Physiology, Motor Control and Nutrition. The focus of this module is to provide a good understanding of how sports science contributes to a better performance of the Esports athletes. Video Game analysis and the use of technologies will be adapted to review E-athlete performance.    

2. Post-Diploma Certificate in Esports Production

Understanding Game Design 

Not every game title makes the transition to the Esports arena. This module explores the design and game play fundamentals behind the most popular Esports games. Game play mechanics, modes of play, and multiplayer dynamics, are also covered in this module. Learners are taught how to identify potential games that can be used for Esports, and the characteristics that lend those games to this competitive platform. 

Video Production for Esports

In this module, learners are taught to use video production techniques to create short form content to market and promote Esports activities and personalities, such as team and player profiles, and events and competitions. Learners are also introduced to multicamera production and in-game directing techniques to cover ‘live’ Esports competitions that bring out the excitement of the competition to ‘live’ and virtual audiences.  

Staging Esports Events for Entertainment

Staging for Esports focuses on creating the environment for a ‘live’ Esports competition that can bring the excitement of the event visually and sonically, while engaging ‘live’ and virtual audiences. This module will equip learners with the knowledge and skills to plan and assemble the elements required for such a stage. In addition, learners will be introduced to concepts and techniques needed to design the stage for the unique requirements of an Esports competition.  

Esports Events Planning and Management

This module aims to provide the fundamentals to understand how to plan and create an Esports event. This module will outline the who, what, where, when, why and how of Esports event planning. Learners will learn how to develop an events business plan that covers the strategic areas for event planning. Throughout the module, this essential events tool will be developed to enable learners to understand the importance of effective resource allocation and delivery, budgeting, venue selection and event space layout, marketing, sponsorship, and measuring esports event success.

Relevant academic qualification includes Diplomas or Degree of any discipline which offer module(s) in any of the following areas:

• Sport Science
• Sport Coaching
• Sport Management
• Business
• Humanities and Social Sciences
• Media Production

Applicants who have a degree and above from any disciplines can qualify for the programme provided they have relevant experience.

Where applicants do not meet the above entry requirement, special consideration may be granted to applicants with at least 3 years of relevant industry experience or its equivalence. In such cases, candidates may be required to be further assessed through an interview and/or submission of a written essay on a given topic. Relevant experience encompasses additional related trainings, short course, workshops, or certifications obtained.
