With the Immersive Media (IM) market poised to grow over the next decade, the need for professionals equipped with the expertise to create immersive experiences has never been greater. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the business need to bring real-world experiences to audiences through digitally engaging and immersive ways. Today, sectors like retail, real estate, education, tourism, and entertainment are ramping up their incorporation of immersive media like augmented and virtual reality to engage their customers both in the physical and digital domains.

What is so unique about this programme?

The Work-Study Post-Diploma (Specialist Diploma in Immersive Experience for Business) will bridge manpower gaps as well as build a pipeline of local talent for the diverse sectors that are using IM to innovate and enhance consumer engagement and experiences.

Infocomm Media Development Authority, through Infocomm Media (ICM) 2025, has identified IM as one of the technology innovations that will help other non-ICM sectors – such as education, healthcare, retail, and simulation training – to improve productivity and create new content, products, and services.  IM is also classified under “Digital Media”, one of the eight categories of industry-relevant emerging skills under the SkillsFuture Series (SFS) which aims to bridge urgent skills gaps in the workforce to help working adults stay relevant and competitive.

How often do I need to attend the course?

Lessons will be held two times a week at RP ACE @ Woodlands.

Weekdays 6:30pm - 9:30pm 
Saturday 9am - 12pm, 1pm - 4pm
 

Note: Some lessons will be conducted via online learning. Timetable is subject to change. 

Participants will be awarded the Post-Diploma Certificate (PDC) upon successful completion of each certificate programme. The Specialist Diploma in User Experience for Infocomm Technology will be issued upon meeting 50% of attendance requirement and passing the assessment criteria of both PDCs.

Module Synopsis

1. Post-Diploma Certificate in Design for Immersive Experience 

Immersive Narrative Design (30 hours)

Recent developments in immersive technologies now enable audiences to be involved and included in creating their own stories and experiences. Immersive narrative design will teach storytellers how to create these captivating and memorable stories through the use of AR, VR, MR and 360° Content. Students will learn to create immersive narratives that are user-driven while being entirely scripted.

Immersive Learning Design (30 hours)

Students will gain an understanding of the elements of play experience design and gamification, to develop engaging content for training, bolstered with immersive media tools and platforms. Students will learn how to approach, design and develop immersive media to shape behaviours, educate and meet a targeted business objective.

Immersive Placemaking and Events (30 hours)

Students will learn the concepts of immersive storytelling through creative placemaking and ‘live’ event design to transform public spaces into meaningful places where communities engage and connect. They will also learn principles and techniques of planning spaces and designing events through the analysis of site context to devise specific solutions. The module will also introduce technologies of lighting and multimedia that can be utilised to capture the imagination of the audience. Through the clever use of design, students will learn how to integrate various creative elements to conceive and create an overall immersive experience.


Business Model Design (30 hours)

Due to the advent of disruptive trends and technologies, traditional business models need to transform into new digital business model by engaging in new management styles. Students will be introduced to design thinking and how it applies to business model design. From this module, students will learn the differences between Agile and Lean Start-up business methodologies.



2. Post-Diploma Certificate in Immersive Content Creation 

Immersive Reality (30 hours)

This module introduces the core concepts of AR, VR, MR and 360° Content for creating immersive experiences. Students will learn about the various immersive technologies, how they are created, have hands-on use of the equipment needed and how these tools can be used in various ways to engage audiences for a specific purpose

 

3D Art Asset Creation (30 hours)

 

3D Art Asset Creation covers the skills and techniques needed to create 3D art assets such as characters, creatures, props, and environmental assets, and optimise them for games, and other digital media. Students will learn how to model 3D objects, and then apply textures and rig and animate them. Students will also learn to optimise and prepare 3D assets to be imported into a game engine.

Immersive Soundscape (30 hours)

This module teaches professional skills in creating soundscapes using immersive storytelling capabilities for linear, interactive and mixed medias. Students will learn to curate sounds in a multi-speaker setting, and enrich the multi-sensory sonic experience through sound design and audio post-production techniques. Students will also learn the use of sensor technology to create interactive and multisensory immersive experiences. Guided hands-on sessions are accompanied with contextual analysis of theories as well as in-depth discussions about workflows, interpretation and creative style.

Immersive Lighting and Projection (30 hours)

Students will learn to engage audiences with immersive storytelling capabilities through the use of lighting and projection. They will acquire professional skills in conceptualising immersive lighting and multimedia projection for a variety of events and venues such as concerts, theatre productions and gallery installations. Students will also be introduced to the fundamentals of projection mapping on different objects and spaces. At the end of the module, they will be able to realise lighting and multimedia designs for immersive experiences.

WSP Eligibility

Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents who are:

  • within three years of graduation from the Polytechnics or the Operational Ready Date (ORD) for full-time National Servicemen, or
  • within five years of graduation from the Polytechnics, and if their employer is a participating company.

Course Entry Requirement

Applicants should preferrably be a graduate of a feeder programme listed here.

Admission will be reviewed and approved by the polytechnic on a case-by-case basis.
