Introduction to Pattern Matching and Anomaly Detection

Discover the essentials and many uses of pattern matching and anomaly detection! With this course, find out how you can recognise and tackle underlying issues in a timely manner to help improve your business processes.

This introductory course will teach you how to identify irregular patterns using Artificial Intelligence (AI), and how to implement a simple pattern matching and anomaly detection system using the H2O deep learning model.

The concepts and techniques of anomaly detection are commonly used to unveil fraud, accounting inconsistencies and network intrusion. However, the fundamentals can also be applied to help enhance decision-making in everyday operations.

Laptops will be provided for the duration of the course.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will have learnt:

  • the history, current and future states of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

  • problem solving and decision-making tasks using AI

  • pattern matching techniques

  • anomaly detection techniques:

    • introduction to H2O

    • pre-requisites and installation

  • basic concepts of anomaly detection

  • introduction to Python tools (Scikit-learn, Matplotlib, NumPy, Pandas)

  • data gathering, preparation and testing

  • usage of low-pass filters and moving averages to detect abnormalities

  • implement an intrusion detection system using H2O

Who should attend?

Software engineers, Machine Learning engineers, Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning specialists, or any working professionals who have a keen interest in AI or ML and aspire to venture into Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning

Entry Requirement

Participants should possess at least a relevant Diploma in ICT or Engineering. Any background knowledge in the fundamentals of computing or any past computer programming experience would be helpful in this course.

Certification

Participants will be awarded the Certificate of Attendance by Republic Polytechnic upon meeting 80% of the attendance requirement.
