This module equips students with the critical knowledge and skills needed to produce Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) technical drawings for scenic, lighting, and sound to stage a ‘live’ event. A broad overview of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) standards necessary for communicating technical information in two-dimensional (2D) CAD will be covered. Students will examine industry-based hand-drawn sketches and learn to translate them into CAD technical drawings. Through expert demonstrations and practical activities such as technical drawing and scaling, students will learn to discern the relationship between the various commands and skillsets required to realise industry-standard CAD technical drawings. Students will also develop a deeper appreciation for CAD technical theatre practices through exposure to local and international ‘live’ events.
