What does it take to start a game-changing business?

That was the question our students tackled with gusto this February. These budding entrepreneurs leveraged RP’s favourite stomping grounds — turned innovation hub — to pitch their creative strategies and implement clever solutions for trending issues.

All ideas were showcased as part of RP’s i-Developing Aspiring and Ready Entrepreneurs (iDARE) Entrepreneurial Challenge 2021. Held annually, iDARE is a pitching competition that enables both current and former RP students to take the stage, and present new business solutions. 

These entries stood out as the most promising ventures this year.

Altimate Nutrition

Tan Kai-En Gavriel and Lee Qi Xun John tackle big challenges with the smallest critters. Maximising the benefits of cricket farming, they came up with a sustainable protein alternative that solves global concerns like water scarcity, climate change, and unequal economic opportunities.

GoFresh!

Ang Quan Xing, Li Xuan, and Wu Haoyue envision a future where plant-parenting and urban farming are accessible to everyone. They proposed a platform that facilitates farming set-ups, including an information portal, AI cloud services, and a community for local growers.

Agape Sim Cong Yi, Kyaw Phyo Tint, Xiao Yanling and Sie Zheng Xi, Dixon noticed a spike in hygiene practices during COVID-19, with people avoiding the use of doorknobs. Their solution, FOOTLE, is a door-opening mechanism that allows you to only use your legs.

Huang Xiaoran and Lim Jun Fu are leveraging smart technology to speed up the checkout process. Their self-checkout trolley solution targets bottlenecks at grocery stores to improve the overall shopping experience.

RP’s Office of Entrepreneurship Development (OED) organised the iDARE Entrepreneurial Challenge to identify the brightest ideas from the RP community and celebrate the spirit of entrepreneurship. Aimed at encouraging solutions that create a real impact, this challenge is part of RP’s mission to spark innovation and enable students to turn their dreams into practical business ventures. 

Winners of iDARE receive support for their start-ups in the form of facilities, further education, and opportunities for growth.
