Game Mechanics Design teaches fundamental game design concepts and industry-standard processes for prototyping different types of games. Students learn an iterative design process involving design, analysis, implementation, and playtesting to create working prototypes of games. Students gain experience designing by layering, planning game mechanics, using a rapid prototyping technique, designing user and play experiences, and making use of the concept of “fun”. Students also explore how the Graphical User Interface (GUI), and a game’s audio can affect the player’s experience. After students have acquired the basic concepts, they move on to build single player and social games.
