APRIL 2022 — The Government of the Riau Islands (KEPRI) and Republic Polytechnic International aims to boost food production techniques, sustainable urban farming know-how, supply chain capabilities, and more through an international partnership.
A Memorandum of Intent (MOI) was inked on 19 April 2022 between the Government of the Riau Islands (KEPRI) and Republic Polytechnic International. Under this 18-month MOI, a capability-building programme has been launched to help increase exports from the agriculture and aquaculture industries in KEPRI.
The ceremony was held at the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore and was attended by representatives from RP, KEPRI, and Temasek Foundation.
Enhancing Farming and Food Production With RP
RP has been training over 24 leaders and 120 provincial government officials, including educators, specialists, entrepreneurs and industry practitioners through the Temasek Foundation – Republic Polytechnic International Food Industry 4.0 and Supply Chain Programme since June 2022.
As one of Singapore’s foremost institutes for training and research in urban agriculture technology, RP is uniquely positioned to support KEPRI’s industry transformation. Through the programme, Indonesian educators and specialists have been able to leverage our strong expertise in sustainable urban farming and the latest food production techniques. Such driving forces will increase productivity and strengthen supply chains for the agriculture and aquaculture industries.
Facilitating Industry Transformation in KEPRI
Participants of the programme will also benefit by being exposed to a broad selection of topics, ranging from digital transformation to agriculture and aquaculture solutions and sustainable farming.
These key focuses were conceptualised after discussions among RP, the Temasek Foundation, and the Government of KEPRI. They target critical growth areas such as Industry 4.0, agriculture and aquaculture, as well as the food production and supply chain industry, in response to the transformations faced in recent years.
The programme is conducted over a year, with the workshops taking place in either Singapore or Indonesia.
Enabling Industry Growth Through Strong Collaborations
RP's collaboration with Indonesia started in 2016 where RP conducted a series of training workshops to support Indonesia’s Hospitality and Tourism sector, while in 2018, we spearheaded a programme to boost supply chain management in the e-commerce industry.
With RP’s well-established network for capability-building, industry partners will be able to receive comprehensive support, both locally and overseas.
Agri-food especially remains a core focus area for RP as we continue to progress Singapore’s '30 by 30' goal. We invest in extensive research and development to facilitate advances in agriculture and aquaculture and are well-prepared to enable our partners to achieve significant progress in these domains.
