This module aims to provide the foundation that is required for students to develop an understanding of chemical principles of how atoms interact with one another to form molecules, and how these molecules interact with one another to give rise to the properties and behaviour of substances. Topics covered in this module include periodic properties of the elements, stoichiometry, chemical bonding, thermochemistry, chemical equilibrium, acid-base equilibria, electrochemistry, reaction kinetics and chemical thermodynamics. Students will be equipped with the necessary laboratory skills to perform dilution, titration and study of rate law, learn how to interpret experimental data and report experimental results.
