This module introduces the conventional methods and up-to-date technologies employed in the sampling, monitoring and subsequent control of the major types of pollution. The module equips students with knowledge and understanding of the major approaches to pollution control and pollution monitoring. The scope of this module includes air pollution, water pollution, subsurface contamination, noise pollution, and light pollution. It introduces environment-contaminant interactions, transport, pollutant containment systems, monitoring, and remedial technologies. Students also explore various techniques employed such as physical, chemical and biological sample analysis, real-time monitoring and remote sensing. Legal environmental laws by regulatory bodies such as the National Environment Agency are also covered.
