This is an application-centred module that seeks to introduce students to the key theoretical concepts in Sociology explaining human behaviour in various social institutions and processes including emerging social phenomena. This module introduces students to the concept of Sociology before highlighting the foundations of society such as Culture, Socialisation, Groups, and Social Structure. Concepts relating to Social Inequality such as Social Class and Stratification, Gender and Sexuality and Social Institutions such as Economy and Work, Families, Religion and Education will also be covered. This module concludes by highlighting the types of social change in modern and post-modern societies explaining the evolution of society and new trends that influence the society where we live in.
