This module introduces fundamental statistical concepts and methods used to solve engineering problems. Students learn to organise, analyse, and interpret data, and apply statistical reasoning to real-world engineering and sustainability contexts. They explore correlation and regression techniques to examine relationships between variables, and study key probability distributions including Binomial, Poisson, Exponential, Normal, T, F, and Chi-Square. Students are introduced to sampling methods, the Central Limit Theorem, and hypothesis testing, with emphasis on conducting statistical experiments and drawing inferences from data. Sustainability case studies enhance relevance and foster critical thinking, social responsibility, and interdisciplinary awareness.
