Laptop Roadshow and Configuration

Before you commence your academic journey with RP, you will need to prepare your laptop for use within RP’s premises.

Laptop Configuration

Click on the "Configuration Guide" tab  to access the guide to prepare your laptop for use in RP. Perform this only when you receive an email from  with the following subject “Preparation of laptop for use in RP”. Enrolled students will receive an email by 8 Mar 2019. Subsequent batches of students will receive emails 3 working days after they are successfully enrolled.

IT Helpdesk Assistance

You may seek assistance at any time from RP's IT Helpdesk if you encounter any issues with the configuration by booking an appointment.


Booking of Appointments

Do book your appointment as early as possible as the waiting times are longer when closer to the first day of school. On the day of your appointment, please arrive punctually with your laptop and accessories (cables, chargers and adapters). Proceed to IT Helpdesk at Library West.


Laptop Roadshow

Click on the "Roadshow Laptops" tab  to check out the laptops offerings at RP’s laptop roadshow available on 11 - 15 March 2019 (9am to 4:30pm) and 11 - 12 April 2019 (9am to 4:30pm) at Library West. Walk-ins are allowed for students facing configuration issues with roadshow purchased laptops during the roadshow period.

The requirements for the laptop are as follows:

Windows Users

MacBook Users

  • Able to support Windows 10

  • 2.2 GHz 64-bit processor

  • 4 GB RAM

  • 250 GB HDD

  • Wireless adapter must minimally support dual-band IEEE - 802.11a/g/n standard

  • Tablet is not supported in RP environment such as iPad, Samsung Tab, etc. Currently, Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and newer, and Microsoft Surface Book are supported.

Diploma in Sonic Arts

  • i5 or higher

  • 8GB RAM

  • 256GB or more (Solid State Drive recommended)

  • Wireless adapter must minimally support IEEE 802.11g standard (recommended to support dual-band IEEE - 802.11a/g/n standard)

  • At least support 1x Display Port – HDMI

  • At least 2x USB 3.0

Diploma in Media and Production Management

  • 2.2GHz 64-bit processor

  • 8GB RAM

  • 250GB hard disk space (sufficient for 2 semesters, after which can be supplemented by external hard disk) OR 1TB.

  • Wireless adapter must minimally support IEEE 802.11g standard (Recommended to support dual-band IEEE 802.11a/g/n standard)

Diploma in Game Design

  • 2.2GHz 64-bit processor (i Series)

  • 4GB RAM

  • 250GB hard disk space.

  • Wireless adapter must minimally support IEEE 802.11g standard (Recommended to support dual-band IEEE 802.11a/g/n standard)

  • Dedicated graphics card is highly recommended

  • Able to support Windows 10

  • 2.0 GHz 64-bit processor

  • 4 GB RAM

  • Mac OSX must be minimally 10.10 (to support Windows 10)
    At least 120 GB Free Hard Disk Space as it requires for Windows installation on Boot Camp

  • Please ensure that FileVault is turned off before bringing your MacBook for configuration. Click here for guide

  • MacBook models that come with USB Type C port only. Please provide a USB hub (minimum 2 USB ports)


Laptop Roadshow 2019

(valid from Mar 2019 till Feb 2020)

All the laptops offered at the roadshow are tested fit for use for RP learning.  Check out the summary of laptops offered. More details of each laptop brand are available as follows:

Please bring the following during the setup

  • Identification Card

  • Laptop Charger - You are required to bring your charger in order for us to configure your laptop

  • External DVD drive (if your laptop does not have an in-built one)

  • USB to Ethernet (if your laptop does not have an ethernet port)

  • Laptop bag (optional)

In order for us to configure your laptop in a timely manner and minimize any possible interruption when battery is flat, we strongly advise you to bring your charger.

Self-Help Configuration Guide is available for Prospective Student in Year 2019. Perform this only when you receive an email from with the following subject “Preparation of laptop for use in RP”.

What will happen to my laptop during the setup process?

Please note that your current Windows operating system will be upgraded to Windows 10 Education thus;

  • Please perform necessary data backup before you pass it to us.

  • If you wish to keep your current OS, please create your own recovery image/backup to an external storage. You may contact your respective service centre for assistance on how to proceed with recovery media creation.

  • Please also note that we do not assist in data backup/recovery

Am I required to purchase any software for my study in RP?

You do not need to purchase any software including Microsoft Office, Anti-Virus, etc.

Windows OS will be provided during your course of study in RP.

How do I check if my laptop meets the requirements?

  1. Press Windows logo key together with the letter R on your keyboard, this will bring up a window at the bottom-left of your screen

  2. Type control system and click OK

  3. This will launch a window that will show your system specifications

Who can I contact if I have any queries?

What will happen to my laptop after I graduate from RP?

After receiving your graduation certificate, you may proceed to RP IT Helpdesk to remove the RP configurations from your laptop.

For students, who bought their laptops from external vendors, if your laptop comes with a genuine Windows 10, please click here to refer to the Microsoft guide on how to reinstall Windows 10 Home edition. If your laptop comes with Windows 8.1 and below, please create your own recovery disc if you wish to restore back to the factory settings upon graduation.

Please note that RP IT Helpdesk will not be able to assist in reformatting/restoring your laptop.

How do I turn off FileVault on my MacBook?

Turn Off FileVault

If you no longer want to encrypt your startup disk, you can turn off FileVault:

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Security & Privacy.

  2. Click the FileVault tab.

  3. Click Lock icon, then enter an administrator name and password.

  4. Click Turn Off FileVault.

Decryption occurs in the background as you use your Mac, and only while your Mac is awake and plugged in to AC power. You can check progress in the FileVault section of Security & Privacy preferences.
