The Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions (MICE) and media industries are key contributors to Singapore’s growth in the past decade. These industries are expected to flourish further over the next few years. As one of the top MICE destinations in the world, Singapore often hosts world-class events that creates numerous job opportunities. With an expected global growth of $1.4 trillion in 2025, Singapore is poised to benefit from the industries’ trend.
This Work-Study Programme (WSP) will provide opportunities for fresh ITE graduates to deepen their skills and knowledge needed for a career in the MICE, and media industries. Suitable candidates will be matched with a relevant job offered by a WSP partner company.
The Diploma in Design and Media (Digital Entertainment and Events) aims to equip participants with in-demand skills to support the MICE and media industries. Through this course, participants will gain conceptual, technical, and practical knowledge; allowing them to play active roles to support digital and physical entertainment, hybrid events, and experiences.
One of the focuses for this course is hybrid events. These events, merging both physical and virtual components, are projected to be the new norm within the MICE industry. With a mix of physical engagement and online participation, this combined approach is effective in engaging audiences—contributing to an event’s success.
Upon completion of the programme, participants will be able to:
- Utilise complementary skillsets to work in both digital and physical spaces
- Plan, manage, and produce scalable events ranging from niche to boutique networking sessions, webinars, and large-scale concerts
- Tap upon a wide spectrum of disciplines such as ‘live’ sound and multi-camera video production, graphic design, motion graphics, event management, as well as project scheduling and management
- Produce engaging stories, distinctive graphics, and enriched video content for a range of digital platforms
What is so unique about this programme?
Even though MICE was affected by COVID-19 in 2020, events and gatherings have not halted, as event planners, vendors, and tech innovators have put forth creative solutions to bring their events onto the digital and virtual platforms. This course enables a skilled workforce that is able to support this transformation and to adapt to the “new normal”.
Graduates will acquire relevant skills and work experience throughout this course to build their portfolio.

Participants take 30 months to complete 5 certifications during this Work-Study Programme (WSP). The Diploma in Design and Media (Digital Entertainment and Events) will be issued upon meeting 50% of attendance requirement and passing the assessment criteria of 5 Modular Certificates.
Certificate in Digital Video and Audio
This Certificate in Digital Video and Audio equips students with the knowledge and skills required to design, produce, and manage audio and video content for ‘live’ and virtual online events. The modules cover both the creative processes and technical skills required to produce quality broadcast and ticketed-event experiences for audiences.
Students will get opportunities to participate in hands-on experiences, working on ideas and project briefs for audio and multi-camera productions in a studio setting. This certificate also covers the interpretation of technical riders, as well as how to set up, evaluate, troubleshoot, and operate audio/multi-camera equipment. Students will develop audio post-production skills for studio work such as recording, and sound design for a variety of media, including podcasts.
Students will also learn how to apply the skills required to deliver quality ‘live’ events, from small-scale to medium-sized Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE) formats, and multi-band performances.
This certificate consists of the following modules:
1. Techniques for ‘Live’ and Online Audio Production
This module develops students’ capabilities to manage Front of House (FOH), broadcast, and ‘live’ recording applications for ‘live’ sound events. It focuses on Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events (MICE) and ‘live’ music performance. Students learn how to plan, set up, and manage professional audio equipment and software required to deliver quality sound reinforcement to ‘live’ and online audiences. Students will also acquire experience in troubleshooting common audio-related technical issues, enhancing audio sources via signal processing, and leveraging ‘live’ sound technology such as networked audio and wireless systems.
2. Professional Audio Techniques
This module covers advanced audio editing, signal processing, and surround mixing techniques for various transmission and delivery formats. Students develop practical skills and knowledge required to produce content in a studio by leveraging industry-standard hardware and software commonly used in studio environments. The module extends students’ abilities to leverage a range of technical approaches, workflows, and processes for managing audio post-production projects. Students will also gain experience in managing the aesthetic elements of creative audio projects.
3. Multi-Camera Production for ‘Live’ Streaming
This module introduces students to the art and craft of simultaneous ‘live’ video recording using multiple cameras. By taking students through the roles, equipment, and documentation necessary to produce a multi-camera programme, they acquire skills and techniques to operate video cameras vision switchers, and audio, graphics as well streaming systems. The module also covers how to apply unique multi-camera protocols and directing skills to direct a production. Finally, working as a team, students will get the opportunity to coordinate their equipment operation skills and directing knowledge to produce content for ‘live’ and streaming platforms.
Certificate in Visual Design
The Certificate in Visual Design equips students with the knowledge and skills required to develop a professional creative style, tell visual stories, design graphics for digital platforms, and enhance video via post-production and motion graphics techniques.
Students will build a distinctive professional style that sets them apart from the competition, and gain the capability to present engaging stories through the medium of digital videos. This certificate also covers post-production and motion graphic techniques to enhance video productions.
Modules incorporate a range of practical know-how tips and theories that underpin creative professional practices to guide students how to design and produce engaging visual elements to optimise the engagement and experience for users and viewers.
This certificate consists of the following modules:
1. Creative Concepts
Creative Concepts introduces the principles, concepts, and techniques that creative professionals use to conceptualise, develop, and critique creative works. The module explores why and how these concepts and principles are effective in supporting creative expressions. It looks at the ways in which professionals use these concepts and techniques, while providing students with opportunities to apply them to their own work. Students will also explore the origins of creativity: why it is important, and how it has become essential for all professions. Students will observe and experience the use of these concepts in practice to discern and appreciate what makes some creative works more effective than others. Through this module, students will develop confidence in sharing their beliefs about the craft that underpins their creative discipline, suggest changes to improve a work’s effectiveness, and articulate strategies to advance their own creative output.
2. Creative Visual Storytelling
This module introduces theories and techniques of visual storytelling, with the goal of enabling students to create effective visual sequences of their own. Visual composition and storyboarding are covered extensively, and, through analysis, discussion, and practice, students develop the ability to create, select, and place images in sequence to maximise the dramatic effect of a work. Through observation, critique, analysis, and hands-on practice, students are trained to become fluent in the language, grammar, terminology, and techniques of visual storytelling. They will also learn to recognise emotional and dramatic development in short stories, while acquiring the ability to translate this development into effective visual sequences.
3. Graphic Design for Digital Platforms
This module looks at the ways design affects how we think, feel, and respond to the world. Through exploration, analysis, discussion, and practice, students acquire the ability to design works that shape one’s perceptions. Students then learn how design can be used to effectively entertain, persuade, and affect human behaviour. Students will also look at why human nature plays a role in design and develop a personal approach for creating design work that is meaningful and effective. Over the course of the module, students will become aware of the elements of design and how they can be used to communicate effectively. In turn, students will be more confident in using these design elements to express their own artistic point of view while embracing imagination and creativity.
4. Post-Production and Motion Graphics
This module examines cutting-edge techniques for shaping, crafting, and enhancing storytelling through the manipulation of moving and still images, texts, and sounds. Using a combination of workshops and practical assignments, students are taught the theoretical aspects of post-production work, as well as the necessary practical skills for creating effective narratives in various video formats. Topics include editing styles for different genres and types of video productions, creating impactful motion graphics, and learning how to package videos in a manner that communicates a specific idea and concept effectively. Students also learn the ‘ins and outs’ of video editing, audio post, colour correction, and motion graphics using industry-standard software. Through analysis, practice and application, students will develop the ability to maximise the potential of the stories told through the medium of video.
Certificate in Events and Project Management
The Certificate in Events and Project Management introduces students to the art and craft of designing, managing, and producing events. The modules cover how events are experienced in the ‘now’ and why successful events— whether in a physical or digital space—can create a positive memory of an experience and a connected brand.
Students will learn how to conceptualise, plan, and execute events. Through this certification, they will also gain an appreciation on why event planning and management are crucial in empowering the organiser and audience; leading to an increase in customer satisfaction. At the same time, students will acquire the basic principles and practices on how organisations use events to entice and engage visitors, through the analysis of various local and international events.
Students will also acquire practical skills in project management and scheduling, cultivating the ability to strategise, map, and execute a project management plan to industry standards. The certificate will also equip students with entrepreneurial skills and knowledge that are applicable in the gig economy.
This certificate consists of the following modules:
1. Creative Enterprise in the Gig Economy
This module equips students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset to face challenges in the creative industries as a novice professional. The module emphasises the art and craft of producing a creative pitch that demonstrates an understanding of financial and marketing planning, intellectual property rights, as well as presentation and delivery skills. Students will learn how to pitch a creative idea or concept to a company/organisation. They will also acquire essential business acumen, including fundamental knowledge of marketing and contracts. Not only that, students will practise communicating clearly in business settings, specifically in pitching, negotiating, and marketing their expertise. This module also helps students develop the ability to provide an overview of different types of business enterprises that engage creative professionals, and explain how freelancers function in today’s global creative marketplace. By the end of the module, students will be able to research potential employers, draft indications of interest for projects, and pitch ideas in a variety of settings.
2. Event Operations Management
This module enables students to understand the principles and practices related to the planning, managing, and running of events. Students will learn to appreciate the impact of timelines, pre-event preparation, on-site management, and post-event requirements. The module will provide students with the necessary skills to work in the events sector and to understand the importance of a successfully run event through interactive discussions and presentations.
3. Project Management
This module equips participants with a clear understanding of the role played by a project manager and introduces the various components of managing a project. It covers human resource management, quality management, communication management, and change management.
4. Project Scheduling
In this module, participants will learn the different approaches to successfully map out and execute the essential components of a project management plan. It covers several areas of specialisations such as work breakdown structure, time and resource management, progress management, project evaluation, as well as project closure. Students will also be introduced to project management software applications like Microsoft Excel.
Certificate in Staging and Lighting Design
The Certificate in Staging and Lighting Design prepares students in the installation of elements required by staged ‘live’ events; for rigging, staging, and set construction.
Students learn the fundamentals for the design of lighting for events; apply these skills to create lighting arrangements to support a given artistic vision, and to alter an audience’s emotions and moods. These technical and creative skills in creating an appropriate atmosphere help audiences better connect with a show.
Students will learn technical digital drafting skills by translating technical hand drawings to a digital format, and gain invaluable experience working in teams, which is vital to anyone vying for a career in show production and events.
This certificate consists of the following modules:
This module provides students with basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills in set construction and the installation of scenic elements for ‘live’ events in accordance to Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) regulations. Students will be able to demonstrate the process of installing scenic elements and scenic construction techniques, using basic power tools. Through engagement in demonstrations and practicing hands-on exercises, students will acquire competencies in rigging and staging techniques, equipping them with an industry-standard foundation in planning, constructing, installing, and maintaining scenic elements.
2. Drafting for Productions
This module equips students with drafting skills required to produce technical drawings for lighting, scenic, sound, and staging designs in theatre and ‘live’ events. Students are taught how to translate technical hand drawings - lighting plans, set drawings, floor plans - to a digital format with 2D and 3D Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) software. Students learn drafting skills that meet the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT) standard, which is a recognised benchmark for most theatre and ‘live’ event companies in Singapore and abroad.
3. Lighting Design
This module covers the fundamental knowledge and skills required to design lighting for theatre and “live” entertainment. It equips students with the essential skills to realise a basic lighting design that provides an entertaining and meaningful experience for audiences. Students will also develop competencies in general lighting language necessary to collaborate with creative and production team members. Most lessons involve mini collaborative team projects, which simulate designing in a theatre or site-specific environment. By the end of the module, students would have cultivated an appreciation for lighting design, and acquired the necessary skills to technically draft a lighting design plan, and programme basic lighting states that support an artistic vision.
4. Designing with Emerging Technology
This module aims to train students in designing and creating interactive solutions which incorporate microcontrollers and electronics such as sensors and actuators, and emerging technologies such as Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and the Internet of Things. Students will also apply basic programming concepts and commands, produce ethical designs with future concepts and technology, and leverage electronic prototyping tools to develop functioning prototypes. Through engagement in authentic projects, students will gain experience in designing, developing, and testing of ideas for the future by leveraging on emerging technology.
Certificate in Portfolio Development in Digital Entertainment and Events
The Certificate in Portfolio Development in Digital Entertainment and Events supports students in creating a professional portfolio to showcase their relevant skills, abilities, and work experience to potential employers/clients.
The modules include an industry project which forms an essential component of each student's portfolio. This project will help students bridge the gap between classroom instruction and authentic real-world challenges faced in the industry.
Students will learn how to benchmark their work and results against industry standards, and develop a distinct style to help differentiate themselves from the competition. Their portfolio, work experience, and qualifications, will be useful in securing gigs and gaining employment.
This certificate consists of the following modules:
1. Portfolio Professional Practice
This module aims to help students to secure employment and gain freelance work. Students will curate and produce a professional online portfolio to showcase their best work. They will also learn how to leverage their professional resume, work experience, and past projects to showcase their unique selling points to prospective employers. This module will look into the curation process of an online portfolio and teaches students how to package their collection of work effectively into an online format. Students will also be equipped with tips and tricks on how to use their portfolio to secure desired job interviews. Upon completion of this module, students will have a better appreciation of a polished, well-maintained portfolio, and understand its importance for continual growth and development in a creative career within the digital entertainment and events industries.
2. Industry Long Form Project
Students will be required to complete a group project based on a client brief, while striving towards meeting the industry standard. Typically, each group produces a variety of original digital deliverables in response to the industry brief. This module also acts as a platform for students to put into practice the skills and knowledge they have acquired over the course of their study. The project serves as an important cornerstone for each student’s final portfolio. Students will also be better able to gauge their abilities upon completing the group project.
