3D Scanning Technology for Everyone

Curious about three-dimensional (3D) scanning?

Gain a comprehensive overview of 3D scanning techniques through this course which also covers the key components of a 3D scanner. Through this course, you will be better equipped to improve the scan quality and post-processing of models for 3D printing.

This course includes a hands-on session where you will be tasked to build a suitable environment for 3D scanning. Guidance will be provided as you assemble and build a mini studio for 3D photo scanning. As part of the course, you will also get to perform 3D photo scanning and conduct the necessary post processing on the model created, preparing it for 3D printing.

What's more, you get to bring home the 3D scanning accessory kit upon completion of the course.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the essential workflow for 3D scanning
  • Assemble and build a mini studio for 3D photo scanning
  • Perform 3D scanning using the built 3D scanner
  • Apply appropriate methods to improve scanning quality
  • Conduct post processing of models to be used for 3D printing
  • Appreciate the use of 3D scanning in different areas of work

Who Should Attend?

Project managers, managers, executives, engineers, technicians, designers, and individuals who are looking to explore the use of 3D scanning technology before deciding to invest in a 3D scanner.

Entry Requirement

You are expected to have basic computer knowledge, and be familiar with the general operation of a personal computer (PC) or Macintosh (MAC), such as browsing the internet, opening, and saving files.

You are strongly encouraged to bring your own computer and smartphone.

Certification

Participants will be awarded a certificate of completion upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.

For courses with formal assessment component, participants will be awarded the certification of completion upon passing the assessment. Otherwise, a certification of attendance will be issued instead upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.

Trainer's Profile

Ms Wendy Ang obtained her Master of Science and Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) degrees from Nanyang Technological University. As a lecturer at Republic Polytechnic, she teaches courses related to design thinking, Industrial Internet of Things, and computer aided design. With her background as an Instrument Design Engineer and Product Engineer, she brings practical experience to her teaching and has a strong understanding of design applications in both industrial and consumer industries.

Mr Chua Swee Cheng holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National University of Singapore. Currently, he is a lecturer at Republic Polytechnic. Mr Chua has several years of product design and development experience. He started his career as a product development engineer before moving into product design. He was involved in the design and development of various products, from household appliances to commercial items such as hand dryers. Mr Chua had used computer-aided design software of different brands throughout his career.

Ms Angela Chng graduated from Nanyang Technological University with a degree in Mechanical and Production Engineering. She has more than a decade of experience using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software in the industry. Prior to joining Republic Polytechnic as a lecturer in 2015, she was a Product Designer, involved in creating machines for assembly and testing. She also worked on areas such as design, prototyping, assembly, testing, and marketing.

Dr Lai Wei Liang obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (Material Science) degree from Newcastle University and Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Design Engineering) degree from University of Glasgow. Prior to joining Republic Polytechnic as a lecturer, Dr Lai was a researcher involved in industrial projects such as repairing of composite structures, developing structural inspection and testing equipment, as well as developing of clean and green energy harvesting devices.
