Automate Your Excel Processes using VBA Macros

Would you like to increase your productivity while reducing human errors at the same time?

This two-day course will equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to automate and customise their Excel processes; reducing the time spent on repetitive tasks while reducing human errors. Participants will be introduced to Visual Basic for Applications, commonly known as VBA, through hands-on learning.

Participants will get to enhance their skills in VBA. There will be opportunities for them to participate in practical exercises where they get to learn how to write their very own VBA macros by following a set of descriptions to achieve intended goals.

Through this course, participants will also discover how to process large data sets in Excel efficiently through the use of common programming techniques, such as conditional statements, loops, arrays, and string functions. Other topics, including basic interactions with Outlook from Excel, creation of commonly used charts using VBA, and some debugging techniques to rectify VBA errors, will also be covered.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise the broad applications and benefits of VBA

  • Demonstrate basic concepts of VBA programming such as data types, variables, and subroutines

  • Create dialogue boxes for user inputs in VBA Userform

  • Identify common errors and apply basic debugging techniques in VBA

  • Automate work processes with VBA macros and customised functions using conditional statements, loops, and string manipulations

  • Apply VBA macros to send email using Outlook

Entry Requirement

Participants are expected to have a good working knowledge of Excel and be familiar with the general concepts of spreadsheets. Prior programming knowledge is unnecessary.

Certification

Participants will be awarded a certificate of completion upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.

For courses with formal assessment component, participants will be awarded the certification of completion upon passing the assessment. Otherwise, a certification of attendance will be issued instead upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.

Trainer's Profile

Mr Samuel Chua is a senior lecturer at the School of Engineering, Republic Polytechnic. Prior to joining RP, he worked as a manufacturing engineer with a United States-based drill bit manufacturing company. He holds a master’s degree in Engineering (Industrial and Systems Engineering) from the National University of Singapore.

When it comes to teaching as well as projects, Samuel has deep interests in mathematics, statistics, data analytics, and programming. In recent years, he ventured into the area of predictive analysis, where he applies machine learning algorithms in education projects.

In 2019, he worked on an institutional-level project involving predictive analysis. This year, Samuel will be working on a cross-polytechnic project in the same area of interest.

Ms Hui Ling's experience encompasses a diverse range of critical areas, reflecting a dynamic skill set honed through hands-on experience. Proficient in Robotic Process Automation (RPA), she adeptly design and implement automated solutions, driving operational efficiency and productivity gains.

Coupled with her experience in Visual Basic Applications (VBA) enables her to develop custom solutions tailored to unique business requirements. With Microsoft Power BI, she is able to transform complex data sets into actionable insights, empowering stakeholders with informed decision-making capabilities. Data cleaning ensures the integrity and reliability of information, laying a solid foundation for accurate analysis and reporting. Her familiarity with Statistical Methods in Quality Management showcases her commitment to deliver continuous improvement initiatives.

Proficiency in iSpring Solutions and Articulate Rise provides her with the capability in e-learning development, fostering engaging and interactive learning experiences. With a passion for service learning, she actively contributes to community development initiatives, showcasing her commitment to social responsibility.
