Getting Started in the Gig Economy

This one-day course aims to equip participants with the fundamentals to succeed as self-employed persons. Participants will learn about what is needed to make money and manage finances as a self-employed person. Participants will also be taught how to bid for opportunities in the government and private sectors, and evaluate the risks when signing a service contract as a self-employed person. This activity-driven course will provide practical opportunities for participants to create typical business documents such as quotations and assess contracts.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the six key differences between how services are provided and finances are managed by a self-employed person and an employee.
  2. Examine the three government procurement approaches - SVP, ITQ and ITT- when bidding for projects.
  3. Determine the six key components when putting together a quotation for a private sector bid.
  4. Evaluate the five key possible risks in not having a contract with clearly stipulated terms for providing a service to a client.

Who should attend?

This course is highly recommended for freelancers and self-employed consultants. In particular, independent talents from various industries including the arts, design, media, communications, marketing and public relations will benefit from the course.

Entry Requirement

This course is suitable for participants with minimal or no prior knowledge.

Certification

Participants will be awarded the Certificate of Attendance by Republic Polytechnic.
