Lean Processes and Simulation

Lean Processes and Simulation is a module selected from the Specialist Diploma in Supply Chain Management. It enables participants to acquire new skills or deepen relevant skills without the need to pursue a full specialist diploma. As this is a stackable course, participants may choose to complete the remaining modules within the validity period, of two years, to be awarded the full Specialist Diploma qualification.

This module imparts concepts on process improvement and analysis methods. Participants will learn a range of Lean topics such as value-streamed mapping, setting of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Key Performance Indicators, as well as work balancing to improve organisational work processes.

Leveraging the use of simulation to tackle complex systems, participants will learn about service processes, material flow and automation systems through hands-on learning. Upon completion, you will be better prepared to make effective, data-based decisions on process re-designs and systems implementation.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the module, participants will be able to:

  • Articulate what is Lean and how to drive operational excellence

  • Create process maps, SOPs and value-stream maps to identify process improvement opportunities

  • Apply time study and line balancing to improve process performance

  • Represent a queuing process as a queuing system and apply basic queuing models

  • Evaluate service processes, material flow systems, and other automation systems by utilising simulation models

  • Present and analyse process data using simple graphical tools

Entry Requirement

Applicants should possess a relevant polytechnic diploma or degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Business, or Science from recognised institutions.

For applicants who do not meet the minimum entry requirements, an interview will be conducted to assess applicants’ qualification and working experience.

Certification

Participants will be awarded the Certificate of Completion by Republic Polytechnic upon completing the module.
