National Electric Vehicle (EV) Specialist Safety (NESS) Certification (Classroom and Synchronous)

Singapore is strongly adopting the use of cleaner-energy vehicles, to create a greener and more sustainable land transport sector, under the Singapore Green Plan 2030.  With the acceleration to adopt Electric Vehicles (EVs), it is important that the automotive industry and its workforce are upskilled to meet the changing needs of the industry and be able to repair and maintain the increasing number of EVs and hybrid vehicles. Through this course, you will get to attain the National Electric Vehicle (EV) Specialist Safety (NESS) Certification.

This course will provide you with a basic introduction on electric vehicles. It will also equip you with skills and knowledge on safety awareness in relation to high voltage systems. At the same time, the learning scope will discuss the following Technical Skills & Competencies Skills Framework:

  • Workplace Safety and Health for Electrical Safety (Level 1)
  • Electric Vehicle and Hybrid Electric Vehicle Battery Management (Level 1)
  • Electric Vehicle and/or Hybrid Electric Vehicle Charging Management (Level 1)
  • Electric Vehicle and Hybrid Electric Vehicle Maintenance Management (Level 1)

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding on the electrical hazards, safety procedures, and regulations in relation to electric/hybrid vehicles
  • Use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and tools while working on electric /hybrid vehicles
  • Summarise the different types of electric/hybrid vehicles and their technologies
  • Follow the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manual to carry out inspection of electric/hybrid vehicles
  • Summarise the different types of charging stations/modes and their technologies
  • Perform inspection of charging ports and chargers for defects and abnormalities
  • Differentiate the different types of electric vehicle batteries and their technologies
  • Perform inspection and evaluation of the electric vehicle batteries

Who Should Attend?

Automotive technician/mechanics, automotive engineer, and workshop manager.

Entry Requirement

You are expected to have basic automotive knowledge and at least a GCE N-Level qualification or its equivalent.

Certification

Participants will be awarded the National Electric Vehicle (EV) Specialist Safety (NESS) Certificate upon successful completion of the course.

For courses with formal assessment component, participants will be awarded the certification of completion upon passing the assessment. Otherwise, a certification of attendance will be issued instead upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.

Trainer's Profile

Mr Mohamed Yoosuf holds a master’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the National University of Singapore. Additionally, he has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University. He is also a Chartered Engineering Technologist (Land Transport – Automotive [Bus]). Prior to joining Republic Polytechnic as a lecturer, he was an automotive fleet maintenance engineer, experienced in overseeing maintenance workshop operation, spare part management, and vehicle procurement.

Dr Steven Chong graduated from the Nanyang Technological University with a Doctorate of Philosophy degree in the area of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Dr Chong joined Republic Polytechnic as an academic staff in 2007 where he has educated, mentored and inspired students in their learning. He also developed strong links with the industry, thereby creating opportunities for student internships, graduate job placements, research and development projects, and industry collaborations.

Dr Quek Yang Thee obtained his Doctor of Philosophy in the area of Computational Intelligence in Electrical Power Systems from Newcastle University, United Kingdom. His Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Master of Science degrees were from the National University of Singapore. His portfolio includes being an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Senior Member and Singapore Certified Energy Manager. His project and areas of interest include smart energy grids, electric and autonomous vehicles, and applications of computational intelligence techniques in power systems and urban transportation. He is currently the Programme Chair of the Diploma in Engineering Systems & Management at Republic polytechnic.

Mr Khai Anshar completed his bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Singapore Institute of Technology in partnership with University of Glasgow. As an industry professional, he is experienced in areas involving semiconductors and automation assembly. Mr Khai also played a part in the manufacturing industry prior to joining Republic Polytechnic. In his experience working with semiconductors, he served as a dry etch equipment owner where he managed a fleet of machines, looking after its productivity and maintenance. Later in her career, he joined Dyson and managed several assembly lines in motor production.

Mr Ji Aidong holds a Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the National University of Singapore, a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education from the National Institute of Education of Singapore, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Nanyang Technological University. He joined Republic Polytechnic as an academic staff in 2008 and has since been actively involved in both Pre-Employment Training and Continuing Education and Training programmes. Prior to joining the Polytechnic, he worked in the control and automation industry.
