Technopreneurship 101

Technology is the industry of choice for many aspiring business owners in today’s day and age. This is partly due to the allure of launching a tech start-up. However, some entrepreneurs fail to consider the unique risks they will have to face in the competitive world of technology. Amongst concerns that need to be considered include the awareness of technological evolution and access to the ecosystem for research and development, leading to manufacturing.

Through this two-day course, you will be equipped with the capabilities to mitigate the risks of the technology industry; enabling you to help businesses scale up effectively and efficiently.

In addition, there will be lab visits and discussion forums with industry guests.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Appreciate topics related to mobile emerging technologies such as the Internet of things (IoT), various wireless technology, and their applications
  • Explore trending technologies such as Edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics, along with their evolutions
  • Understand the interactions between consumers and technologies
  • Discuss technologies’ suitability for adoptions
  • Recognise the pros and cons of technology outsourcing and insourcing
  • Identify the benefits of open innovation to expedite your time-to-market products

Entry Requirement

You are expected to have basic information technology literacy. No prior programming background is required.

Certification

Participants will be awarded a certificate of completion upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.

For courses with formal assessment component, participants will be awarded the certification of completion upon passing the assessment. Otherwise, a certification of attendance will be issued instead upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.

Trainer's Profile

Mr Tony Tan is a senior lecturer under the Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Republic Polytechnic (RP) since 2005. Before joining RP, he worked in the industrial sector for about eight years. His previous work experience includes research and development in automotive, mobile phones, and radio segments. Currently, his research interests include Edge AI, IoT, robotics, blockchain, etc. Mr Tan holds a Master of Science in Wireless Communications from Nanyang Technological University as well as a Master of Business Administration from the University of Strathclyde.
