RP is dedicated to fostering a culture of sustainability, shaping the traditions, values, and behaviours of our community. This involves instilling a sense of responsibility, empathy, and ethical considerations toward the environment and society. We aim to extend this positive influence through a whole-of-polytechnic behavioural and cultural change to become a more environmentally sustainable campus community that makes a green difference.
The Environmental Sustainability Steering Committee has curated the Go Green RP movement to rally the RP community together to take a proactive step towards joint responsibility and collective action for environmental sustainability. It collates all ground-up initiatives from Sustainability Champions to create a greener campus as OneRP.
To involve students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders in sustainability efforts and encourage collaborative efforts, RP has appointed Sustainability Champions from each department. These Champions serve as enthusiastic advocates for sustainable practices within their departments. Their role includes raising awareness and involvement among colleagues, aiding in the development and execution of RP's sustainability strategy (known as the RP Green Plan), and offering valuable input and assistance. They also lead sustainability projects or initiatives aligned with their department's objectives and functions. Additionally, they keep their departments informed about sustainability best practices, trends, and opportunities by sharing relevant information and resources.
At RP, sustainability is not merely a top-down initiative; it's propelled by both students and staff through a diverse array of programs. These initiatives, spearheaded by passionate individuals from our student body and faculty, play a pivotal role in advocating for sustainable practices campus-wide. From eco-friendly initiatives like clothing collection drives and upcycling projects to educational campaigns such as the development and launch of the Sembawang Nature Guidebook, aimed at educating the public about biodiversity in Sembawang Park and Sembawang Spring Park, these programs engage the entire community in fostering a positive environmental impact. Through collaborative efforts and innovative ideas, students and staff collaborate closely to cultivate a culture of sustainability that transcends the confines of the classroom, igniting meaningful change within RP and beyond.
We aim to embed sustainability as a fundamental way of life across our community. This involves raising awareness, recognising sustainability champions, and integrating sustainability into campus operations and student life activities. We also encourage community initiatives on sustainability, fostering a mindset and lifestyle that prioritises environmental responsibility.
