About the Course

There is a demand to increase and improve software delivery processes, based on Gartner report. Agile, as well as Development and Operations (DevOps) have also been identified as the would be de facto in automating software applications for continuous delivery.

Through DevOps, businesses can look forward to an improved collaboration, with better productivity. This is achieved by automating applications and services to speed up delivery.

The Specialist Diploma in DevOps equips participants with the skills and knowledge to implement end-to-end software service through continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines. Upon completion of the programme, graduates will be able to accelerate and bring agility to business processes.

Individuals who are keen to pursue a career in DevOps and be prepared for the agile business of the future.

Working adults who wish to acquire new skills and knowledge on DevOps for improved business efficiency.

What is So Unique About This Programme?

This programme is jointly offered by Republic Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic.

A first of its kind, participants will undertake projects in DevOps to implement CI/CD pipelines using open source tools such as:

  • Git/GitHub
  • JIRA
  • Junit
  • Maven
  • Jenkins
  • Puppet
  • Docker
  • Nagios

Equipped with hands-on experience and industry-relevant capabilities, graduates can look forward to a fulfilling career in the agile business world. Some career opportunities that can be pursued include DevOps Engineer, Agile Software Developer, Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, and SysOps Engineer.

How Often Do I Need to Attend the Course?

Lessons will be held 3 times a week online with 1 face-to-face lesson per module at RP ACE @ Woodlands.

The course will commence in April.

The Joint-Polytechnic Specialist Diploma in DevOps consist of 2 Post-Diploma Certificates (PDC), each consisting of 2 modules each as shown below:

Module Synopses 

Agile Methodology in DevOps

This module covers basic DevOps concepts such as continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment and how they are assimilated into various DevOps functions. It also covers the concepts and techniques of agile methodology, scrum process framework and Kanban agile process. Agile project management and issue tracking tools for hands on will be used to introduce these concepts.

Code Management in DevOps

This module covers the concepts of source code management and version control in a DevOps process during the development phase. Topics covered include version control, basic concept of code management, utilizing source code management tools and best practices. Practical hands on deliverables are expected as part of the course outcome.

Release and Security in DevOps

This module covers the concepts of release management and security management prior to code deployment in Continuous Delivery for DevOps. Topics covered include planning, scheduling and controlling the release of code with integration of security testing. It also covers ITIL processes that complement DevOps to better integrate IT with business needs and strategies. Practical hands on deliverables are expected as part of the course outcome. 

Deployment and Monitoring in DevOps

This module covers the concepts of deployment management, operation management and monitoring management in Continuous Delivery for DevOps. Topics covered include rollout and rollback of code, mitigation of operation challenges with aid of tools, monitoring performance and availability of services. Practical hands on deliverables are expected as part of the course outcome.

For non-WSP programme entry requirements

  • Applicants should possess a relevant IT Diploma from a recognised institution.

  • Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted will have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants..

  • Applicants who do not possess the above qualification shall be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants who want to pursue the course under Work-Study Programme must be either:

  • Fresh local polytechnic graduates from relevant courses (Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents) within 12 months from their graduation or from their National Service Operationally Ready Date (ORD).

  • In-employment local polytechnic graduates (Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents) within three years (up to five years, on a case-by-case basis) from the date of their graduation or ORD.

Conditional Offer

Graduating student (in final academic year) from a local polytechnic may apply for the programme.
