Airport Engineering and Operations

Airport Engineering and Operations is a module selected from the Specialist Diploma in Aviation Management and Services. It enables participants to acquire new skills or deepen relevant skills without the need to pursue a full specialist diploma. As this is a stackable course, participants may choose to complete the remaining modules, within the validity period of two years, to be awarded the full Specialist Diploma qualification.

This module looks into how aerodrome operators ensure both high serviceability and efficient operations at airport facilities. The learning scope covers the maintenance of airport infrastructure, routine maintenance procedures, and operational standards for airport facilities.

Participants will also learn about the functions of an airport operation centre, different emergency situations in the aviation industry, notification processes for accidents, along with its corresponding classifications, and standard operating procedures in airport operations.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the module, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the factors involved in an airport terminal design

  • Demonstrate an understanding on passenger processes and operations management of a terminal building

  • Perform capacity assessment of the various components of a terminal building based on the Airport Development Reference Manual

  • Determine the parameters in the design of runway, taxy-way, and apron

  • Describe the steps involved in airport master planning
