About the Course

Electronics is the major industry underpinning Singapore's economic growth. The electronics industry is the largest contributor to Singapore's GDP from the manufacturing sector.

Singapore's Electronics industry is a world-class, innovation-driven hub that provides technology, manufacturing, and business solutions to enable the development of new growth areas. Today, Singapore has more than 30 integrated circuit (IC) design centres, over 20 wafer fabrication plants, and over 15 companies with research and development (R&D) or manufacturing operations for IC assembly and test.

What is so unique about this programme?

This programme provides you with a strong foundation in Electrical and Electronic (EE) Engineering. It prepares you for the diverse and dynamic EE industry, through two specialisation tracks with a strong demand for skilled and trained professionals: 

- Microelectronics
- Analogue Electronics and Applications

Under the Work-Study Certificate programme, you may enjoy additional benefits such as sign-on incentives with full-time employment, assigned company mentors, well-structured trainings, and career advancement opportunities.

After completing 1 year of the Work-Study Certificate programme, students can choose to continue to take the Part-Time Diploma in Engineering (Electrical and Electronics) in another 1.5 years.

How often do I need to attend the course?

Lessons will be held 3 times a week at RP ACE @ Woodlands.
Course commences in October.

Note: Some lessons will be conducted via online learning.

Participants will undergo a 12 months structured training programme including on-the-job training, facilitated and e-learning training under the Work-Study Programme Leading to a Diploma in Engineering (Electrical and Electronics).

Module Synopses

The programme aims to equip ITE graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge to support the electronics sector. At the end of the programme, the participants will be able to apply the knowledge of electronics in the following core areas:

  • Microelectronics
  • Electronics

The programme consists of 6 modules:

Analogue Electronics

This module aims to equip students with fundamental knowledge and appreciation of analogue electronics. Students will be introduced to the characteristics of commonly used semiconductor electronic devices in the industry. These devices include diodes, Bipolar-Junction Transistors (BJT) and Field-Effect Transistors (FETs).

Data Acquisition and Sensors

The Data Acquisition and Sensors module aims to equip students with the knowledge to design and implement basic data acquisition systems that are commonly found in the automation, pharmaceutical, petrochemical and food processing industries. Through this module, students will learn commonly used sensors in the industry.

Linear IC Applications

The Linear IC Applications module aims to equip student with the fundamentals to analyze, design and implement linear ICs in a project based learning environment. Students will appreciate and understand how various types of linear ICs can be applied in projects ranging from basic to more sophisticated real-life applications.

Wafer Fabrication and Packaging

This module aims to equip students with the knowledge of the making of semiconductor devices used in consumer electronics. Students will learn the technologies and processes of Integrated Circuit (IC) fabrication and packaging and appreciate the extensive effort which goes into the making of an IC chip.

Measurement Techniques and Failure Analysis

This module covers the basic principles and techniques employed in semiconductor characterization and failure analysis. Students will learn to make a decision on the choice of measurement and imaging techniques, depending on the application.

Thin Film Technology

This module allows students to develop a good understanding of the thin film technologies that have been widely used in semiconductor industry. It covers the properties of different thin film materials as well as growth and fabrication methodology.

Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents who are either of the below:

  • ITE graduates from relevant course who are hired within 3 years of graduation or completion of National Service (Operationally Ready Date);
  • Current employees who have graduated for more than 3 years but within 5 years from the date of graduation or completion of National Service (Operationally Ready date). Admission will be reviewed and approved by RP on a case-by-case basis.
