Carbon Economy and Reporting

The carbon economy and reporting course is curated for professionals who are driving carbon management within their companies. In the 2-day online training, you will be introduced to principles of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) accounting, calculation of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions based on Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol and case studies of actual carbon reports. You will also be briefly introduced to the various types of carbon markets and carbon management strategies within organizations. Hands-on activities provided during the training will allow participants to gain a clearer understanding of the methodology for emissions calculation.

Learning objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe carbon footprint and its importance in managing the environmental impact of an organization.
  • Describe the different Greenhouse Gases (GHG) accounting standards and reporting principles.
  • Explain the consolidation approaches based on the types of financial accounting category.
  • Apply the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard to determine the Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions of an organisation
  • Understand how to select the base year and when to recalculate for the base year for carbon accounting
  • Discuss the importance of value chain mapping in Scope 3 accounting
  • Describe the different types of carbon market and carbon management strategies

Certification

Participants will be awarded a certificate of completion upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.

For courses with formal assessment component, participants will be awarded the certification of completion upon passing the assessment. Otherwise, a certification of attendance will be issued instead upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.
