On average, a person creates more than 1.5 megabytes of data each second that can be processed into quality data to gain valuable insights for organisations. Are you ready to turn your data into gold?

This course focuses on hands-on learning and participants will be introduced to the world of data cleaning through case studies. Moreover, you will get to develop both basic and advanced data cleaning skills too!

Participants will also be taught how to clean and prepare data using tools such as Microsoft Excel and UiPath; providing accurate and reliable analysis as well as visualisation of data.

At the end of the lesson, participants will get to take home an easy-to-use robotic process automation (RPA) bot designed for data cleaning.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Understand the importance of data cleaning and the consequences of inaccurate data

• Utilise tools such as UiPath and Microsoft Excel for data cleaning

• Apply appropriate techniques in Microsoft Excel to manipulate data, identify potential data defects, and clear unwanted data

• Apply techniques such as regular expressions to match and extract data

• Clean a dataset based on real-world data

• Adopt good practices when collecting data

• Identify tools available for data collection

Entry Requirement

Participants are expected to have basic IT literacy and be proficient in Microsoft Excel.

Certification

Participants will be awarded a certificate of completion upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.

For courses with formal assessment component, participants will be awarded the certification of completion upon passing the assessment. Otherwise, a certification of attendance will be issued instead upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.

Trainer's Profile

Mr. Jason Yap is a lecturer under the School of Engineering at Republic Polytechnic (RP) since 2008. He holds a master’s degree in Education (Curriculum and Teaching) from Nanyang Technological University, National Institute of Education. Today, he teaches mathematics, engineering mathematics, statistics, excel visualizsations and dashboarding, 3D printing, and RPA.

Prior to joining RP, he worked as a senior engineer for five years with the Defence Science and Technological Agency. His responsibilities included carrying out analyses for weapons, explosives testing, building protection modelling, and blast effects on structures.
