Basic knowledge and skills needed to work in a molecular diagnostic laboratory for virus detection will be covered in this two-week course. The participants will be attached in a molecular diagnostic laboratory for 5 days and will go through blended learning comprising hands-on practical sessions.
Learning Objectives
This course aims to provide the participants with these fundamental knowledge and skills:
a) general laboratory safety, biosafety requirements and knowledge on PPE
b) fundamental techniques in aliquoting lab specimens including pipetting, dilution calculations and precautions
c) basic principle behind molecular testing of viruses
d) RNA extraction technique
e) operations of Real-Time PCR, interpretation of results and error identification
f) operations of MGISP-960 Automated Workstations for COVID-19 application workflow

Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
• Science & Technology diploma qualification or an equivalent in relevant working experience (min 1 year)
• Non-Science & Technology diploma holders with GCE O-Level certification will also be considered on a case-to-case basis.
Completion & Certification
Participants will be awarded a certificate of completion upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.
For courses with formal assessment component, participants will be awarded the certification of completion upon passing the assessment. Otherwise, a certification of attendance will be issued instead upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.
