The ABC’s of 3D Printing (Get Started Even Without a 3D Printer)

Keen to learn about three-dimensional (3D) printing, but do not know where to start? Or are you feeling overwhelmed deciding whether or not to buy a 3D printer? Sign up for this course and be certified to use 3D printers at makerspaces by the National Library Board (NLB).

This course provides you with the necessary guides and resources to help you familiarise with 3D printing, even if you have yet to own a 3D printer. Participants will be introduced to the basic concepts of 3D printing, and be better positioned to tackle the topic at a deeper level, upon completion of this course.

The ABC’s of 3D Printing (Get Started Even Without a 3D printer) course is divided into three segments.

In Segment 1, participants will learn about 3D printing at their own pace through an online learning package. You will be exposed to various online tools and software to set up 3D models, and uncover simple ways to proceed with 3D print jobs using resources that are readily available online or in the community.

In Segment 2, participants get to interact with the course instructor and facilitators at MakeIT @ NLB, a library makerspace. You will explore 3D design and 3D printing in greater depth.

Finally, in Segment 3, participants will attempt a simple quiz. You will receive a certificate upon completing and passing all three segments.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and explain different types of 3D printers
  • Apply the use of 3D printing to different areas of work
  • Create customised 3D designs using a design software
  • Prepare and create 3D prints through the use of readily available resources

Who Should Attend?

Project Managers, Managers, Executives, Engineers, Technicians, Designers and individuals who are looking to explore the use of 3D printing technology before deciding to invest in a 3D printer.

Entry Requirement

Participants are expected to be familiar with the general operation of a personal computer (PC) or Macintosh (MAC), such as browsing the internet, opening and saving files, and have basic internet search knowledge. In addition, participants should be comfortable with using an online meeting software to meet with the instructors and other participants for the second segment of the course.

Certification

Participants will be awarded a certificate of completion jointly issued by RP and NLB upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.

For courses with formal assessment component, participants will be awarded the certification of completion upon passing the assessment. Otherwise, a certification of attendance will be issued instead upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.

Trainer's Profile
